Westbrook is a great talent but imo he needs to look at what Harden did to transform himself into a true point guard if he ever wants to take a team to the next level but since he already has won an mvp with his current playstyle it probably will never happen.

There was never any transformation. Harden always had a game that was more team friendly and led to more wins. Hardens first season as a starter with the rockets he led the rockets to the 8th seed.

When harden moved to point guard he didn't change anything, just did what he always did but more.

Also doesn't help that Melo and George also require a lot of ISO plays, although Melo moreso than George.

PG will look much improved in LA's free flowing offense imo

It’s just too late man. Analyst have been telling him he needs to throttle the aggressiveness for nearly a decade. Wall listened, Russ hasn’t

Westbrook "shut that shite off"

Russ was -14 while Rubio was +22

Russ had 3 assists versus 5 turnovers

wall also learned to shoot 3pters and improved jumpers.

First 3 years: 32.9% 16ft+ and 24.3% from 3
Next 5 years: 36.8% 16ft+ and 34.0% from 3

The issue for Westbrook isn't the aggressiveness, the issue is poor shot selection and failing to improve those bad shots to at least make them reasonable.

I learned to love Westbrook's style of play and how he can play at 100% all game. The issue is him going at 100% leads him to play reckless to his weaknesses.

Rubio made a 3pt shot in his face
He goes down and tries to shoot one to respond. smarter decision would have been to drive since Gobert wasn't in position, he had a decent lane and he's fast enough to get there.

Russell Westbrook is the antithesis of the maxim(s) "work smart, not hard" or "work smart and hard," that said I love his max effort approach to basketball however it ain't translating to a lot of Ws or great team success like it did for one Allen Iverson back in 2001 when he led that Sixers team to the NBA Finals no sir

Donovan Mitchell will be an absolute stud in this league. Looks like the Jazz hit the jackpot when they picked him up at 13.

Also I really wish Russ could learn to play in control more. He is such a fantastic player and it's so fun to watch. But with his current style of play I doubt he has what it takes to lead a team to a finals victory. He always goes 100% and thats great, but he also plays out of control too many times.

That's a little unfair IMO. Westbrook is not in the same crappy Eastern conference that Iverson was back in.

I think Westbrook's becoming underrated by the board. The roster just isn't built to fit his game. He has some very poor qualities, but he also has some skills that no one else in the league possesses.

HOF Isaiah Thomas says D Mitchell is already a legit superstar. Anybody disagree?

As far as I recall, I've been on record lauding Westbrook's max effort approach to basketball. As far as his other attributes are concerned, Westbrook's probably the best athlete not named LeBron James playing basketball today however best athlete doesn't automatically equate to best basketball player. Like me, htran and Boom have articulated on numerous occasions, Westbrook's approach is a double-edged sword because there are times when it evidently exacerbates his basketball weaknesses and detracts from overall team success.

He's trending that way, he's been incredibly impressive this season replacing Hayward and building the rapport with Rubio and Gobert REALLY emerging as a force these playoffs like HOLY shite

disagree, he's phenomenal and I don't think you could go wrong with him or Simmons

But right now, he's just a volume shooter:
17.2 attempts for 20.5 points
Series vs OKC:
22 attempts for 27 points
25 attempts for 28 points
20 attempts for 22 points
28 attempts for 33 points

At this point, he's just monta ellis-early career.

He's gotta take the next step, in efficiency, facilitating, and getting to the line to become a superstar.

Look at Devin Booker this year:
19.5 attempts, 24.9 points, 4.7 assists. He's still not there yet, but he's close. bump up the FG% from 43.2->45.0% and become a better passer (3.6TOV is a lot). He's going to the line a lot more, becoming more aggressive on finishing.
