Magic did say the Lakers are looking at two summers of free agency.
ETA: if this summer doesn’t break the way they want, there’s next summer as well was the context.
They aren’t going to panic basically.
young core with 4 guys who can basically increase their draft stock dramatically
kuzma - better defender/passer
ball - better scorer/defender
ingram - continues to develop his body and overall
hart - continues where he left off (4 games of 20+PPG and good fg%)

Haven’t seen Ag’s point of view on this but David Ricky and I are in agreement that if the Lakers do if fact strike out, they’ll still be in good shape to compete given the young pieces that are in place

Yeah I would still be pissed if we completely strike out but I’ll get over it as long as they don’t do something stupid with the cap space long term.
It feels a lot different having this young core compared to when the front office was flailing around every summer trying to put a contender around an old Kobe.

But a Denver pick? Thats out of lottery range.
Also, is it possible to trade for a player then flip him immediately in the offseason? Maybe this is the play. Idk, just trying to make sense of it.
On some level, I would assume this is also targeted at trying to leverage the Spurs a bit by showing willingness to wait a year.
If they commit too hard to this offseason or bust, the Spurs can extort them for Kawhi. Leaking discussions to free themselves up for 2019 can improve their negotiating position for Kawhi.

Ok so has the big 3 that will beat the warriors been assembled yet?

Tania Ganguli @taniaganguli A small update on where things stand with the Lakers and trade talks. A league source tells me that so far the Lakers haven't offered Brandon Ingram in any deals.

I caught the tail end of it, but Tim Bontemps (WAPO NBA beat writer) was on Rick Bucher's radio show and thought LAL is getting none of PG, Bron, Kawhi.

I mean, the point of the thread is rumor, speculation, and innuendo, so documenting what two bona fide NBA insiders said to each other is not exactly out of bounds. And anything that keeps WCA on D Rick on their toes is worth posting.
Carry on.
Carry on.

A lot of Lakers fans really overvalue these guys like Kuzma and Ingram. A lot of them (not you) say they wouldn't even make the trade.
Of course they're nice to have in supporting roles, but I'll take the 5 karat diamond instead of 5 one karat diamonds.

The Lakers are smoking crack if they think they can trade for Kawhi without including Ingram.

I'm unclear on what they would be offering without Ingram. Kuzma and a draft pick?

Kuzma was first team all rookie and Ingram showed signs of developing into a star player last year. They're good.

What if PG and Lebron come tomorrow? Are they still smoking crack? Could they then offer Randle and Kuzma plus picks?

Imo Ingram has perennial all star potential. I like Kuzma but he has nowhere near the ceiling of Ingram

You used the key word, potential.
I'd trade potential in for a sure thing every time. People forget how good Kawhi is. He was a top 5 player in the NBA when he played last year.
I think it's a classic case of Ingram/Kuzma's potential grabbing the imaginations of fans and running away with them. We often tend to overvalue potential, what we imagine, and undervalue the known entities.
I don't see there being a workable package that's too much for the Lakers to give up to get Kawhi. Magic needs to quit if he botches this.
