Melo isn’t staying there. Salary dump move for Atlanta.

How is it a salary dump if they have to pay Melo’s buyout?

It’s essentially an expiring contract for them. Will allow them more cap room next year

Paid Melo $28, but don't have to pay Schroder something like a remaining $60mil.

Yeah this is a nice deal for OKC. Save money and Schroder is interesting as a sixth man type

Curious to see how going from Ariza/LMaM to Melo is going to work out for Rockets.

Saves OKC like 100 mil on luxury tax per woj

Also if they would’ve stretched Melo it would’ve been a 9 mil cap hold for the next 3 years, Shroder is at 15.6. Mentioned he could be traded as well

How is this gonna work with OKC's cap situation though. Dont the salaries have to match up?

Atlanta has the cap space and OKC was already over the cap considerably

Melo isnt a wing replacement. I'd be shocked if he played the 3 very much. D'Antoni and Morey know exactly who he is.

If Rockets find a way to get Ryan Anderson to the Kings then Melo should be relegated to the Ryno role. He provides more than Ryan Anderson in every facet of the game except shooting.

So as long as a team is over the cap, they can traded for a player with a lower salary?

Oklahoma City was able to accomplish two things by trading Carmelo Anthony to Atlanta, improve the roster while saving $73M this season. The Thunder will now see their projected luxury tax bill drop from $150M to $88.8M, a savings of $62M.

In addition, Oklahoma City will save an additional $11M in salary savings with the Dennis Schroder $15.5M contract and the $1.5M cap hit of Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot. The Thunder now have a payroll of $148.7M, down from $159.6M.

The roster in Oklahoma City also improves with the addition Schroder, a starting quality point guard that will back up Russell Westbrook and adding a young wing in Luwawu-Cabarrot. Instead of having the $9.3M dead cap hit with Anthony on the stretch provision, Oklahoma City essentially is paying $5M for the next three seasons for a 24 year-old point guard who has started 161 games in five seasons.

if you are over the cap, you have to either bring in equal or less money

Thunder gets rid of Melo and gets Schroder as a backup PG. That's a home run trade.

Why wouldn’t they be able to? How would anyone lower their payroll if teams couldn’t trade for less salary?

Good luck with convincing Melo of that.

They already told him he is a bench player. He coulda gone to Miami They offered him starting spot. CC said no. Melo agreed. Only a clown would think that bc he wasnt willing to come off the bench in okc mean he wouldn’t come off the bench in CC.

CC bench firepower

Melo
Ryno
Gordon
Green

I never seen so much scoring pop off a bench in all my days.
