Everyone needs to hibernate for 2-3 years. No reason to spend that kind of money in OKC on a second fiddle team

As their roster currently stands, the Thunder would save $114 million by stretching Carmelo Anthony's $27.9 million for next season. $18.6 million in payroll, roughly $95.4 million in luxury tax payments. NINETY FIVE POINT FOUR MILLION DOLLARS.

So yeah, Melo is definitely getting bought out.

Is there honestly any other option for OKC? They really don't need him and doesn't fit with Russ at all.

Yep, he gone. I’m guessing he’ll sign w/Houston and come off the bench

Do they get to save the luxury tax money for a buyout?

If so obvious yes.

If not... still obvious yes.

I'm not so sure...Houston has very little cap space and I'd prefer they sign a guy like James Nunnally who could fill a huge need instead of Melo who thinks he deserves to start.

The Rockets cannot afford to have a guy like Melo come in to the locker room and act like a bull in a china cabinet.

My guess is Melo signs a 1 yr deal and for a good team. Maybe he signs w/Houston for the min if the Rockets brass sign off

Melo is an awful fit for any team. If he was willing to come off the bench then maybe a fringe playoff team or a team projected to be a 4-8 seed might give it a go otherwise he isn’t worth the $$$$ anymore.

Houston doesn't have any cap space. They are operating over the cap. The most they have to offer is the taxpayer MLE of $5.3 million.

What could happen is Melo gets bought out and signs with Houston for the taxpayer MLE. OKC would still be paying the bulk of his salary, plus he'd get Houston's $5.3 million on top of that, or a portion of it, so the money wouldn't be an issue.

And James Nunnally could still sign with the Rockets.

If he's bought out I'd be willing to give it a try. Low risk.

low risk, low reward
seriously, you guys are better off not.

I mean if you think he'll help you get through the season and allow CP3 and Harden to get some more rest, I guess you can sell me on that.

Come playoff time, you don't want him playing any minutes.
