I only liked the elfrid payton move because my expectations was a backup PG with rondo as a starter/mentor.
But for 9mil (meh...that's a lot), no way we could do that and go into the tax. We're not a contending team without a wing and a hobbled boogie for a year, no point to become a tax team yet.

likely deal Ball either with Ingram or attach him with Randle & get Leonard. Sign him to a contract extension whether its immediate or next offseason
They'll need a secondary baller handler at that point which will be rondo.

We literally couldn't offer him that.
We could offer him a 20% raise or the TPMLE.
The Pelicans had no mechanism to come even close to 9 million. They wouldn't even get to 9 million over 2 years.
