Because then you have money committed to a playe that you can't use until Orlando matches. Orlando waits until the last second to match, you lose the player and you lost out on signing other guys.

Teams are looking ahead to 2019 when the cap increases more, contracts come off, and the free agency class is loaded. Makes sense to sign guys to one-year deals.

But I can see a team still throwing money at him if he doesnt sign a deal with Orlando, no? Like if we get a week from now and hes still technically available, I can see someone like Brooklyn seeing what they can make happen and if Orlando really will match anything
