Rockets' decision to decline option to pay Chandler Parsons $965K in 14-15 might be biggest blunder of offseason. Blowing up in their face.

Haven't read the thread. Anyone find it hilarious that Houston offered Dirk a max?

Giving Chandler Parsons $15m a year is a bigger blunder.

Parsons was TeamMorey until he realized that LBJ leaves, Bosh comes to Houston and Parsons is yesterday's news in Houston

I don't blame him one bit

I think not paying parsons next to nothing is a far bigger blunder here.

Morey is highly overrated by Rockets fans imo. He's done some stupid shite in his time as GM and I'd be interested to see what the current Rockets would look like if he wasn't bailed out by Basketball Reasons.

Morey and parsons had an agreement in principle but things changed. Morey gambled and will probably lose on parsons but gain bosh. If no bosh then they match on parsons and get bounced in the playoffs again

Either way they are at best a second round exit. Chris bosh will not push that team to a ship.

I posted it on the Peliccans thread, but Larry Coon pretty much breaks down what has to happen for Houston:
quote:

Larry Coon @LarryCoon · 3m
So let's do some math. Suppose Houston dumps Lin & Asik with $0 coming back. They renounce Daniels, Garcia & Hamilton. They waive Casspi

...Beverley, Covington & Powell. They keep QO to Parsons & Capela's draft rights. They have Dwight, Harden, Jones, Motiejunas & Canaan.

..With that configuration, they can give Bosh $16,427,992. Pretty short of his $20,644,400 max.

So let's renounce Capela & Parsons. Cap room rises to $19,279,451. STILL short of a max offer, and they don't have rights to Parsons.

To keep Parsons' rights & still sign Bosh to max, they have to dump another $3,732,744 in guaranteed salary. That's Jones AND Motiejunas.

So to get Bosh at max AND keep Parsons, Daryl Morey just needs to dump Asik, Lin, Jones AND Motiejunas with no salary coming he other way,

...along with throwing overboard everything that's not bolted down.

Since a couple of you have asked, yes, I know that there are potential deals for both Asik & Lin. If they can dump more (say to Philly in

...the Lin deal), Daryl Morey could potentally pull it off. A lot of pieces have to come together, though.

But then he'd have Dwight, Harden, Bosh, Parsons, Canaan, Room exception, and minimum salary contracts. And if Parsons signs an offer sheet,

...then he has to do it all in a big hurry.
Seems Morey's only out is for Lebron to wake up tomorrow morning, announce he's going to Cleveland, Bosh immediately signs in Houston, and he gets his buddy in Philly to take Lin+ Jones + Montiejunas.

Plus the Asik/Pelicans deal has to go. But before that happens, the Pelicans have to dump salary.

All has to go down very fast.
