have strong doubts CP3 is involved in the trade.

How else would it be possible?

I don’t think the salary works on CP3, Harden, and Westbrook, nor does a CP3 and Westbrook pairing work.

This would line up on Russillos theory that the rockets like to throw their name out for every superstar that’s available just to keep their name in the conversation

Rockets are probably trying to acquire other guys while helping to facilitate the trade between Miami and OKC. Westbrook will end up in Miami.

Westbrook and Harden together? ? The Rox 3rd scorer would average maybe 5 shots per game.

Thinking about those two trying to share the ball...there would be a Gilbert Arenas style gun showdown in the locker room inside two weeks.

There are still limits to that.

You think people are breaking down their door for Gordon, Tucker, and Capela?

It does, they can trade out Gordon, Capela, and a couple of their small salaries and it would work salary-wise.

This on the other hand, is a completely different situation

It’s actually the opposite in this situation. Who is feasible to trade money wise for those guys that is an upgrade on the OKC or Miami roster? Both those teams are loaded with worse contracts on worse players

Limits to what? Rockets have picks they can still give away.

What is the reason for this question? There are only a handful of players any team is "breaking down their door" to acquire.

1. Rockets arent trading Tucker

2. Capela and Gordon are nice players that would be desirable under the right circumstances, like many many players.

You seem to be taking and all or nothing approach when evaluating players.

It appears Zach lowe was right that the thunder get no assets for russ. They are going to have to pay to dump him. That is an albatross if I have ever seen one.

I’m looking at how much cap space is available in the league right now and what you would get for some of these players.

Unless Morey is paying Dallas to absorb them into that huge TPE, I see limits to what they can do to make space.

Moving one or all of those three was a lot more feasible before June 30 when all the cap space got spent.

Well his contract does suck.

If I’m the Pistons I take that risk.

2-3 year window to compete for the east, if it doesn’t work blow it up when the other contracts (Griffin, etc) expire and back to the lottery.

Something like this could work:

Thunder get:
Eric Gordon
JR Smith
Deyonta Davis
Gary Clark

Rockets get:
Russell Westbrook

Cavs get:
Clint Capela

With picks included wherever needed.

ETA: now, would the Cavs want to do that? Who knows, but that JR Smith contract could help facilitate this trade.

Thunder aren’t doing a trade that doesn’t get them under the tax threshold and Cavs have no incentive there either

And why doesn't this trade get them under the tax threshold?

ETA: that trade would cut 18 mil from their cap this season.

Now, the Cavs part, as I said I don't know if they'd be interested. Thompson has 1 year left on his deal, they can move on from him after that. They may be interested, they may not, it just was something that could be possible because the Smith contract is something that makes the trade work and allows to cut significant salary.
