I'm not one to put LeBron James in the conversation with the GOAT, but he will go down as one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

It's odd to say, but he will only add to his legend if he can will Cleveland to an NBA title this season. However, if they go down in flames (which appears likely), I don't think it taints his legacy at all. He will still be remembered as one of the greatest, but well short of the greatest.

I have no issue with that at all

He's a beast, but it pains me when people haphazardly throw him into the conversation.

I don't know why, honestly. I started a thread a few years ago asking why people love LeBron James so much and never got a clear answer. I don't know if it's a bunch of people who grew up in a different era and never watched Jordan to appreciate him or what

A majority of folks I think just want to like LeBron just to be different or just to rustle jimmies, which is fine, but it has gotten to be more than annoying

Naw. LeBron is the first big time NBA talent the newer fan generation as had full access too.

ESPN was all over him when in high school.

Same with Tiger Woods.

Both those guys have brought more fans to the their respective sports, so it's a good thing.

How so? It was basically one on three that series.

Magic vs. Jordan/Pippen/Grant

Worthy was injured and Kareem had retired.

s sense considering the data that came out this week showing MJ's cast are top 5-10 type Finals teams since the 90s and Lebron's are bottom tier.

You don't think Lebron makes his teammates better at a rate at least somewhere near MJ? Or better put, you think the difference between how much MJ and Lebron have to do with making teammates better is the difference between 1 supporting cast being top notch and the other being bottom tier for Finals teams?

It was PIPPEN that made their teammates better ; ask anyone that was around the Bulls. Scottie was the approachable, on the court leader. Jordan was Kobe but 10x worse...pippen was the only one that Jordan saw as an equal (and at times admitted that pippen was a better all around player) and it enables him to be a demonstrative, lead by example leader, while pippen rallied the teammates.

We keep disregarding that Jordan had the second best wing in basketball for his 6 wings.

Imagine Lebron playing with a Peak Dwade (years 2-9) for 10 years-- he'd have 6 rings too

he's fricking amazing at basketball and is one of the 6 best players in history without question and very likely one of the 2 best

it's not that difficult

and i defend him b/c those who irrationally hate on him have to rely on avoiding objective data, moving goalposts, and making ridiculous claims to attack him. i jump i those discussions for almost any player (just as i defend almost all great players), so why would i exclude lebron?

Man, the lack of self awareness in this post, wow.

Also surprising to see you admit defeat and falling for their troll attempts and getting you rustled.

I mean, do people hold it against Durant for not making the finals last year after westbrook went down?

How many people do you see on here claiming Durant >>>> LeBron as the "GOAT?"

Exactly.

And at comparing Westbrook to Irving

if we were sitting here trying to argue KD is one of the greatest of all time and we used the dumb logic of if he wins it proves he is but if he loses meh doesn't hurt him one bit, then we'd have to hold it against him. you can't just ignore one result because it fits your narrative while saying the other result helps it

I guarantee you if pippen would've went down and Jordan would've lost the finals they wouldn't be as forgiving and spouting off that it doesn't count against him

So you're saying if KD had somehow willed that team to a championship last year that would not have helped his legacy and would not have shown how great he really is?

In your opinion, was last years playoff run detrimental to KD's legacy as a player?

My post has nothing to do with who is the greatest of all time.
