Fair, but these injuries/rehab are so brutal that I think teams will shut them down even in situations like this going forward.

I agree, but they will never reduce the amount of games played in the regular season. Instead, they will shaft the fans and continue to sit the star players for "load management" so they can keep the schedule the same.
