Horry hated Danny Ainge from his playing days and continued that hatred when Ainge became coach. Apparently, Ainge had beaned Horry's good friend, Ellie when they played for the Rockets. Horry was suspended for two games, which was the maximum allowed under the CBA, then he was traded to LA.

Horry no likes Danny Ainge

it started 30+yrs ago in AAU with the emphasis on gathering area talented kids together as young as possible

This problem is completely at the feet of the owners. Hire a coach you have faith in and back your coach.

Then players you want won’t come there. I like your idea it just doesn’t work unless you have a proven coach and it seems that’s even becoming a thing of the past

They should just play without a coach. NBA sucks anyway.

How has it not been brought up that MLB coaches are even more powerless yet. At least NBA coaches design plays and shite. MLB coaches dont even get to pick the starting lineups anymore, its all done by analytics guys upstairs along with when to change pitchers and pretty much every other thing managers used to decide.

Part of the problem with Webber was a quirk of the CBA which fricked the Warriors.

Signing a high pick like Webber without having the cap space to go with it meant the Warriors had to use a certain clause of the CBA to sign him which, in turn, gave Webber a termination clause he could use after one season.

The Magic were in the same contract situation with Penny Hardaway but winning fixes a lot of issues and Penny didn’t want to opt out.

I think this combined with the contract Glenn Robinson got out of the Bucks as 1st overall pick circa 1994 were directly responsible for the defined salary slots for 1st rounders in the next CBA.

Pop didn't until the MVP of one of his championship teams wanted a trade. That neutered him. I wish he'd retired.

This all started at AAU level about 15 years ago and has gotten worse.

Magic got the Lakers coach prior to Pat Riley fired. This has been going on for a while. As others have said, the premium in the NBA is just so much more on the talent than the coaching.
