No, but I noticed you didn't answer my question.

Ok, the answer varies depending on the situation. Give me a situation, and I’ll tell you if I think it’s unprofessional. It’s not really a gripe, like I said, I just think announcers referring to a few star players by first name is a bit too personal and buddy buddy.

I think it sounds more relaxed, which is what sports commentary should be. It's a game, not the RNC.

they're football players.

The richest man in the world is also referred to by his first name

Other pro athletes that have always been referred to mainly by the first names:

Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, Shaquille Oneal, et al

I don't mind if it's a unique name or a true star who you know immediately who they're referring too. But I was annoyed by it yesterday too as they did it for multiple people.

I had the game on but was just listening. When they said "James up the middle" I had to stop what I was doing and watch because I had no clue who they were talking about.

I don't like it either. It's like they are trying to convince the audience that the players are their friends.

People who call celebrities by their first names in general annoys me. Same reason, it's like your para-social fantasy of pretending you know them or something.

You're getting all the downvotes but I actually am with you. For whatever reason, it's annoying. I like Romo and Nantz but those two do it 10x more than any other announcers, it's like a thing of theirs.

Seriously. Turn on a game, mute the tv and call it for yourself and see how difficult it is. THEN try to remember that these schmucks you cry about have to do the shite for 3.5 hours

Record yourselves doing it and post it here. I think it’ll be funny
That's what the Albert brothers, Al and Marv, used to do when they were kids.
