Hope they reduce it to like sex games without much fanfare.
Letting him partake in sex games hardly sounds like a penalty!

It is going to get the point if a black person is called a racial slur they will be allowed to murder people and get off. I mean WTF? Give me a fricking break. Who fricking cares if he DID get called a racial slur. Accept responsibility for your actions. What a little baby back bitch.

Didn't tell anyone. Not the NFL, not his team, not the refs, not the coaches.

Only a week later he comes out and says it.

Unreal. Kick the guy out of the league.

So then that has absolutely nothing to do with falsely claiming a racial slur then? Did Hill say the dude called him a racial slur?

I’ve read from legal people this specifically isn’t an option
Why not? This isn't a Vontaze Burfict situation where he made a vicious helmet to helmet hit in the course of a play. Play was over, dude swung a helmet as a weapon at Rudolph's head. Not much different than a hitter charging the mound and swinging a bat at the pitcher IMO.

I actually thought Garrett had a decent case in his appeal to get the suspension reduced by bringing up previous precedent set by the NFL for basically the same offense a few years ago. Guy rips Richie Incognito's helmet in a scuffle and swings it at him. Gets suspended for 3 games...and 2 of the 3 were preseason games. So he only missed 1 game check and 1 game that counted.

The Steelers need to have a nutsack and stand behind Rudolph here. If the nfl doesn’t now add on to Garrett’s suspension they need to press the issue

this is what i thought as well. i have absolutely no idea why his team thought the route theyve chosen would be a good idea

It's a fair consideration (damages) you raised. But there are categories of defamation where the requirement of showing how you were damaged is lessened because the nature of the defamation is such that it is believed to be/assumed inherently damaging.

Thanks for that, that makes sense. And again not knowing the law, I could certainly see a false racial slur claim would fit with being inherently damaging.

It's particularly bad in the sports context because now you're going to have thousands of loyal fans pretend Rudolph really said that because it impacts their team allegiance.

If Garrett doesn't have a really compelling story and/or if it can be shown Rudolph didn't say it, then the NFL has to punish this really harshly.

They won't, I suspect.

Their black head coach could really make a statement here by backing Rudolph.

Can't wait for The Undefeated's piece about him being forced to deal with these racial ineptitudes.
