TD posters say the "official" punishment is $25K fine for tampering with equipment.

If I were commissioner, I would suspend Belichek today, and not allow him back in his official capacity until after the championship game is completed. Not let him prepare for the game, not set foot in the stadium, not glory in being interviewed 30 times during the next two week, not hoist the trophy.

(*I realize that if the official penalty is set at $25K, then that is that. I am just saying what I would do if I had the power).

I would make him do hard knocks. That would be torture and the ultimate punishment for him.

That's brilliant. He would hate it so much.

In fact, it might be too harsh a punishment.

Whoever is responsible, I say a fine is adequate. I don't see how the deflated balls gave NE some unfair advantage.

The commissioner is going to slam him fwiw. Reports are that the league front office is pissed.

The floor of the penalty is 25k. There is no ceiling to the severity of the penalty.

Well that just makes you butthurt

The league has also set the precedent of not wanting a penalty to affect the playoffs (Donkey Suh committing a much worse offense)

I think he'd take the two week suspension suggested by the OP over Hard Knocks.

That's what Colin Cowherd was saying this morning -- make the Patriots do two seasons of Hard Knocks.
I think Belichick would opt to retire instead of put himself through two training camps with a camera crew following him around.

that was my first thought too, but New England would just use the first round money to buy free agents, and New England has the last or next to last pick in the first round, so its not as big a deal as it seems.

quote:

These are the 2015 NFL Draft Picks currently owned by the New England Patriots:

1st Round
2nd Round
3rd Round
4th Round (their own)
4th Round (Via TB – Logan Mankins)
6th Round (Via TB – Jonathan Casillas)
7th Round (Via TEN – Akeem Ayers)
7th Round (Via HOU) Ryan Mallett

I felt that since it didn't seem to make any difference when New England had to pay Jets with a 1st, 4th and 7th to trade for Belichek, (which at the time I thought was really stupendous and dumb) that something personal would have more of an impact, a sting.
According to TD posters, there is really only a $25K fine for tampering with equipment, so this is all if you or I were "commissioner for a day".

teams are always looking for an advantage. Coaches/players not the risks/rewards offsets. I was taught in high school football that if I wasn't cheating then I wasn't trying.
