You have more offensive or perimeter centric players in your front courts now. So let’s say back in the 1990s you’re not going to start a Cliff Robinson over someone like a Mark West, who was a high 50s% FT shooter, the way you would today. You have a few examples of it with a Daniel Garfford or a Robert Williams type but more than not the weaker defending, better shooting big gets the nod.

I'd put Chamberlain and Antetokounmpo above Olajuwon in athleticism.
I think both were/are faster, better jumpers, and had/have more fluid coordination.
Olajuwon has some of the best numbers for blocks in NBA history. But Chamberlain played before blocks were officially counted as statistics. The statistics that were counted are off the charts.
Chamberlain was a champion high jumper and participated in multiple other TF events with Kansas. That was in the 1950s, so with more advanced training and nutrition, the results could've been even better.

FT%, eFG%,and TS% are not "deliberately biased statistics"
You cherry picked.
The NBA is more guard/perimeter-oriented than ever. Guard generally will shoot 3s and FTs at a higher percentage than Bigs and that has be consistent throughout the history of the game. What actually changed again is the handchecking rule which made offensive play significantly easier for guards and then the conscious effort by the NBA to reward flopping/foul-baiting and increase scoring and here we are.
You keep proving my point. Offense didn’t get better, defense got handicapped to the point that none of these guys can consistently play man defense. Float around in the arc and hope you can put your hands up and in the way enough to alter a shot and cause a miss with minimal effort.

Again you never saw Carter take the shots Curry takes despite him being capable of it.
True and I agree with you, but Curry never had remotely the level of athleticism that Carter does and if he did, he wouldn’t play like he has during his career. He had to develop the game he has or he’d just be working at Curry and Sons insurance agency.

in the 1995 NBA finals put up great numbers but everyone who saw the games and even Shaq himself will tell you he got cooked. You do know the point of the game is to win right? I know people like you prioritize winning when it suits you then dismiss it when it doesn’t.
The post doesn’t address…..anything. What are y’all upvoting?
I’m not even sure what to address with it. Are you saying he couldn’t have played well bc he didn’t win? Idk why you added “the point of the game is to win.”
You confuse tf out of me.

Just for giggles… what year were you born???? Serious.

Ok cool… I can see why
You are biased… you have pretty
Good sports knowledge. I was20 years
Old when magic and bird came into the league and changed the way the game was played forever. For you to bash the way the game was played before say 2005 is just plain wrong. YouTube highlights just don’t do it justice compared to living through that time. But you are entitled to your opinion and I can respect that.

You know exactly what the post is referring to, save your BS.

I don’t mean to bash the game as much as vigorously claim Lebron would be even more clearly the GOAT if he played in those eras.
Posted on 8/18/24 at 6:44 pm to ReauxlTide222
Yes you do, it’s self explanatory and it was posted because you threw a fit over another example of the same point. Re-read the thread if you can’t figure it out.

He would have been the best overall athlete back then. But he would have had trouble with the rules back then with the way he acts on the court. He complains a ton in todays game. His complaining back then would put a huge target on his back…just speaking the truth.

“Lebron clearly the GOAT”
Lol now it all makes sense

The new rules were implemented to help Lebron win but instead the shooters took over and passed him up lol. There’s no era that could make him the GOAT because he lacks what it takes to be the GOAT.

I agree with this. He has never had the killer instinct that Jordan or even Kobe had….
Posted on 8/18/24 at 7:01 pm to dukke v
He lacks decision making, mental toughness and coachability. His talent can be A++ but you’re never going to be the GOAT without those things which is why his record is what it is in the Finals despite the league doing everything humanly possible to push for him win.

I’m talking about the more physical play back then.. he would have got pounded. He has never played in the league when it was like that. To be honest he is a freak athlete that looks like he can’t take a hit without flopping like a flounder. Once he did that in the 80’s and 90’s it would have gotten much worse.
