Wouldn't put Howard and Hatfield in the same sentence with the other 2.
Howard averaged 6 wins a year in 29 years and was under .500 for the entire decade of the 60's
But they did field contenders. I’m just saying they weren’t some doormat program like other posters suggested.

Got to remember that back in the day bowl games were considered exhibition games.
I’m gonna take this as sarcasm, but if not.
Bowl games are much more of an exhibition now than they have ever been. Are you suggesting that Bama is 1-5 versus Texas in bowl games because they were ‘exhibitions’ way back when?
Did Bama have a let down because they only went to the Sugar in ‘48?
‘64 Bama was declared champions and undisputed number 1 before losing that bowl.
The Tide were ranked higher in all but 1 of those bowl/BCS games. It’s just an outlier stat that they are 1-7-1.

LSU vs Tennessee, especially prior to 2000
LSU could never beat them
LSU could never beat them

LSU - Tulane hasn't been mentioned since it is no longer a rivalry, but because it once was once a very heated rivalry I'll just post the overall record:
LSU leads the series 69-22-7
LSU leads the series 69-22-7

Cl3mson in the Chic fil A and Maryland back in the 50's. Otherwise, LSU has jever lost to an ACC team.

False. Iowa State has never won the Big 8. They last shared a conference title over 100 years ago when they were in the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association. In fact, ISU has never won an outright title. Both MVIAA titles in 1911 & 1912 were shared.

LSU lost to Virginia Tech in 2002. Were the hokies still in the Big East at the time?

They were in the big east until 04

That’s a really good bar trivia question
I was staring at the winsipedia for too long trying to figure it out.
39-27 vs the current ACC
22-4 vs the current PAC-12

Not sure if brought up, but in the Bama/LSU series the worst part is that LSU beat Bama in 1969 at home.... they did not beat Bama at home again until the year 2000. That’s just crazy.....

I assume that is the record of the teams while they were actually in the ACC because LSU has an all-time losing record to Florida State and Georgia Tech and some losses here and there to Miami, Syracuse, Duke, UNC, etc. before they were in the conference or before there was a conference.
It looks like there were losses Virginia Tech in 2002 and Clemson in 2012. Edited: Forgot VT was in the Big East until 2004.

Nebraska - 48 Colorado - 20
Michigan - 71 Michigan St - 36
Utah - 59 BYU - 31 (that one really surprised me)
Texas - 69 A&M - 37
Texas - 53 Arkansas - 22
Air Force - 37 Army - 16
Virginia Tech - 58 Virginia - 33
Pitt - 55 West Virginia - 35
West Virginia - 11 Marshall - 0 (not that Marshall is a "decent program," but the 0-11 record is telling).

No coach in Penn State history has more losses to Maryland than James Franklin.

Key takeaway from this thread is just how many fricking pathetic programs there are around the country.
If you put the history of the top 10 SEC teams against the whole of the rest of the country, I would give the SEC teams the edge.
USC, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, Miami, Florida State, and Notre Dame are the only schools that have even tried the last 80 years, and 2 of those gave the others a 100 year headstart.
