This has me wondering, what will be the next stadium that lasts a long time, but becomes iconic and revered in the process?

At the rate we're going, there may not be any newer stadiums that end up being iconic landmarks like Fenway, Wrigley, Lambeau, etc. Only ones I think that may stand the test of time are AT&T Park, Busch (maybe), and PNC. I can't think of any newer football stadiums that would fall into that realm.

FedEx Field is only 20 years old and people have been bitching about how terrible it is for years

I went to the GB/WASH game this year at FedEx Field and had to say it's not a great stadium. Traffic to and from isn't great. Public transportation isn't ideal. The stadium itself felt like it was setup for college football instead of an NFL game commanding premium money. Tailgating was sad, though it was a rainy day. There's absolutely nothing around the stadium, so you want to get in and out quick or risk getting stuck in DC traffic.

But the most depressing thing to see were the covered seats, which were so many. It just felt like the stadium and it's surroundings was designed to last less than 20 years before moving again.

For example, the old RFK stadium sits on federal land and building a new stadium there would have to go through all kinds of political hoops if I'm not mistaken.

Chainsaw Dan wants to build a literal moat around a new stadium in DC, and is also looking towards National Harbor (where the only DC area casino, the MGM, is located).

Wasn't the whole deal with the size of that stadium when built that the Redskins had one of the biggest season ticket waiting lists in the NFL and they wanted to build such a big stadium to keep up with the demand? Has all of that fanbase just completely eroded?

Yeah, I think FedEx Field has already removed seats at least 3 times? It was too large to begin with and the crap product they've put on the field has really hindered attendance (and that's putting it nicely). And as we're discussing, it being out in Landover isn't helping.

eta: If the Skins were a better-run franchise as a whole, I have no doubt Skins fans would come back in droves to Landover or otherwise.

You aren't kidding. Went to the Texans game this year (RIP Alex Smith) and was looking online for something to grab to eat before the game and there are very few restaurants in the area and the ones that are there are like a mile or more away.

Being in National Harbor might be the only way I'd be okay with it staying in MD.

You should read some of the crap that Snyder has pulled that has alienated Skins fans to no end. Kind of sad, really.

Dave McKenna has been reporting on Dan Snyder's dirtiness for a while. Be forewarned, as many of these links come from Deadspin.

There's more out there, but here are some of the articles strictly related to Dan Snyder and not the politics of the team or the cheerleader incident or the decision to fire GM Scot McCloughan.

NFL games don't typically run very far beyond three hours

The average NFL game last year was 3:08. I don't think it's necessary to split hairs over 8 minutes, nor does it change my point.

Not really the point I was making. Even if the game lasts exactly 3 hours, you're still most likely facing AT LEAST 4.5 hours between meals if you don't eat anything at the game.

Let's not forget him suing some little old lady who could no longer afford her season tickets because of the recession.

I don't know about you, but it's pretty normal to go 4.5+ hours between meals. If an NFL game starts at noon, I eat lunch/brunch beforehand and am back home for dinner before 5:00. I get a snack at the game and am fine.

Love night games over put-you-back-to-sleep 11 am and noon early games... There's nothing like a Dome packed to the brim where two teams enter and one team leaves.
