Yep. He was traded to Oakland in July. That was the last time a Cardinal team lost 90 or more games.
Wasn’t that the year the A’s had the AL and NL batting champion on the same roster?
ETA - looks like Ricky was beaten out by a few points for the AL champ.

While he didn't win any award (Doug Williams was the SB MVP), it's still weird to think about Timmy Smith's performance in SB 22 vs. the rest of his career.
SB 22: 1 game, 22 carries, 204 yards, 2 TDs.
Rest of Career: 24 games regular and post-season, 219 carries, 740 yards, 3 TDs.

Terry Pendleton, 1991 NL MVP and batting champ, made the All-Star team the next year, bounced around a few teams, and received one HOF vote.
Going back through MLB MVP winners and he was the first that I didn't fully recognize. I knew the name but not much about him.
And then you get to Willie Hernandez, who won the 1984 AL MVP and CY as a relief pitcher, and ended up getting 2 HOF votes.
ETA: Some dude names Zoilo Versalles won the 1965 AL MVP... who?

Interesting the way his career started then really tailed off. From 1988 to his SB winning season in 1991, he had been named to the Pro Bowl twice and had the following TD Passes to INT stats:
18/13; 22/13; 16/11; 28/11. 84 TDs, 48 INTs. Pretty damn good for that era of late 80s-early 90s QB stats.
Then the rest of his seasons after winning the Super Bowl.
13/17; 4/10; 4/3; 9/8; 1/0; 0/2. 31 TDs, 40 INTs.

On the golf majors, Ben Curtis winning 2003 Open was a very forgettable event.

That’s so forgettable because it didn’t happen

During that time, Heisman winners normally came from top ranked teams
