Class act IMO. I met him in a hotel during a bowl trip while he played for Purdue. Him and his buddies were more than happy to sign stuff for me (I was 11 at the time) and talk for a bit. Real cool dude.

I'm gonna win in terms of time frame. Nellie Fox. A grill outside of a bowling lane in Houston next to my motel. He was having breakfast and the waitress tipped me off that he was always there at 11 am.
He signed the ball "Nelson Fox."

a Nellie Fox doesn't beat a Joe DiMaggio where I come from.

It all depends on time, I guess.
I mean Kenny Stabler in the '70s was much more famous than JJ Redick now, and it's the same if you look at their peaks.
But I saw Stabler in 2006, when he was checking into a crappy hotel, two doors down from a bunch of college kids (us
), while I saw Redick at bars and on campus all the time at his peak of success, when he was the NPOY.

meeting Redick would be like bragging about meeting Tyrus Thomas or Early Doucet.

Agassi and Courier after an exhibition match in the P-Mac around 91' or so. Felt bad for Courier, only 5 or so people walked up to him to talk and get his autograph.

Redick is a hell of a lot more successful than Early Doucet, and while Thomas is probably at the same level, he was in college so briefly that I bet Redick is a lot more recognizable. That's why I didn't pick Luol Deng, who I know much better than Redick or anyone else who was on campus in that 4-year window, not to mention Jay Williams rehabbing and playing some basketball with scrubs like us.
But I agree with your general point.
Stabler is the most famous guy I've met, but I would say that when you go with the most famous at a specific point in time, it's Redick in his NPOY year.
