Ohio State released to the public some of the documents its investigative team used while looking into the allegations made against head football coach Urban Meyer and others, providing detail into how involved parties first reacted at various stages of the Smith scandal.

quote:

The series of text messages, emails and handwritten notes reveal Meyer's reaction to the police investigating a domestic assault issue with Smith in October 2015. The documents also show how Meyer and others responded in the lead-up to Meyer's public comments last month that "misrepresented" what he knew about those 2015 allegations.

quote:

Meyer texted his agent, Trace Armstrong, hours before speaking to reporters in Chicago at Big Ten media days and said Smith had been fired for "cumulative stuff. I will not tell the media."

quote:

Armstrong replied to Meyer's text with the following: "For sure. It was the totality of his choices ... but you had to do it. Only a matter of time before he did something that did substantial harm to you or the program."

He warned Meyer to be careful while answering questions from reporters, and Meyer responded: "Easy. Monitor for me. Amazingly all the stuff vs. Zach will get legally dropped and he was fired. Tuff perception world we live in."

Meyer told reporters that afternoon he was not aware of any incident between Smith and his ex-wife that occurred in 2015. When questioned after police reports surfaced later that evening, Meyer told ESPN he was not aware of any other domestic-related issues that occurred during Smith's time as a coach at Ohio State.

quote:

their final assessment included a belief that Meyer did not "deliberately lie" when questioned about Smith's past.

quote:

Armstrong texted Meyer on Aug. 2 this year, the day after he was put on administrative leave, to let him know that two women were coming to his home and would "need four hours with your phone."

The day before, according to the investigative report, Meyer had a conversation with staff member Brian Voltolini about how to set his cell phone so that text messages that were more than a year old would not be retained on the phone. A week prior to that, Voltolini was notified by the university's Freedom of Information officer that the student newspaper had requested a record of Meyer's text messages from the fall of 2015. The investigators said they found no text messages on Meyer's phone that were more than a year old but could not determine when he adjusted his settings to make those disappear.

Agreed.

People were all over this board praising that fgt reporter who used to work at ESPN for uncovering all this shite about Urban Meyer and creating this "scandal."

Really that guy is just a douche. So is Meyer, of course.

Herman hired a staffer named Casey Horny from the Briles regime at Baylor.

What did UT think they were getting?

"Significant memory issues" means he let somebody swipe the history on his phone. You'll have to admit, he played it off better than Hillary.

Don't care about any of this shite.

Somehow as a society we have regressed badly in the past 10 years or so and we now have a constant moral witch hunt going on against everyone.

I blame social media. People have always loved sanctimonious grand standing and forming mobs, and social media has made it trivially easy to do so.

Agree

I was expecting some substance here.
Deleted text messages? Not admitting everything to the media?

It was also a master stroke they basically can cover everything shady thing Urban Meyer did with this incident.

Urban Meyer's text messages disappeared after talking to Voltolini - Meyer just doesn't remember despite his prior extensive knowledge of events

Urban Meyer talked to his agent about not telling the media anything and somehow Meyer didn't deliberately lie to the media - Poor wittle Urban Meyer just couldn't remember despite his prior extensive knowledge of events

= Urban Meyer

Im gonna stick with my gut and say that Meyer doesn't finish the season as coach. Someway and Somehow, those deleted messages are gonna turn up and whats in them will be cause him to be fired or resign.

Maybe you should try again. Nothing new was revealed really relating to Meyer in this stuff.

Smith's firing was cumulative. Trespassing, Drug stuff, DUI etc.

We are a nation of giving people second chances and trying to help people, not ending careers over one misstep. Domestic Violence is absolutely serious and something that should never be condoned, but as of today, it still hasn't been proven anything really occurred he was hired at OSU.

I just wish OSU had a better due diligence process and we could have never hired him in 2011, with his prior stuff at UF (I was also initially against the Meyer hiring based on his history; I really don't think this was a fireable offence).
