About 4 weeks away.

Really hate they moved it from espn/abc.

This years host:

quote:

This year, the Bee will welcome 234 spellers from May 31 to June 2 for the national rounds in National Harbor, Maryland.

Spellers will represent four countries in addition to the U.S., including the Bahamas, Canada, Germany and Ghana.

There will be spellers from other U.S. territories, including the Virgin Islands, Guam and Puerto Rico.

The youngest speller this year is just 7 years old.

The spelling competition will be fully in-person for the first time since 2020. In 2021, it was held mostly in a virtual format with the finals taking place in person.

The champion this year will receive a $50,000 cash prize.

Preliminaries will begin May 31, quarterfinals are scheduled for June 1 and finals will take place June 2.

That contest is filled with the nerdiest of the nerds and geekiest of the geeks.

Why it was ever shown on ESPN is beyond me.

The only entertaining value it held for me was the occasional meltdowns by contestants that got the word wrong.

They should all be smart enough to learn that hard lesson on taxes pretty quickly too.

Really? So when did attempts to spell a word correctly become a fricking sport?

I must have missed that memo.

i would have a better shot of scoring double digits in an NBA game than competing in the spelling bee

I was a pretty good speller in grade school, and I did well in our local spelling bee (I won two Geography Bees), but some of the words that they ask them to spell? Nah, hard pass. I concur, I have a better shot at hitting a homerun in the MLB than I do competing in the spelling bee (which is no chance at all).

8 year old me was in the quarterfinals….my word was blew…

I was so excited and rushed and said “B L U E”

Then the buzzer went off saying it was incorrect. I was crushed. I should have asked for the judges to use it in a sentence
