Red Sox (794 G):
139 HR | 470 RBI | 134 OPS+ | 34.6 fWAR | 1 WS
Title

Dodgers (794 G):
163 HR | 473 RBI | 134 OPS+ | 29.3 fWAR | 3 WS
Titles

This is and will always be one of the worst trades ever made. The centerpiece of the return the Red Sox received (Alex Verdugo) isn’t even in the league anymore.

Hard to think of a worse trade.

Red Sox have made some notoriously awful trades.

They also traded 22 year old Jeff Bagwell for a middle reliever.

Yeah, if you don’t consider the money. Which I think played a big part, probably the biggest part. Boston wasn’t willing to give him the $300 (or whatever) deal the Dodgers were. Better to get something for him than to just let him eventually walk.

They chose Devers instead. Who is also no longer with the team.

Funny how Dodgers fans stopped caring about cheating once they got Betts.

Are you a teenager? It's not hard at all.

Name one in the modern era, grandpa. The Red Sox traded a first ballot HOF in the prime of his career for virtually no return.

It's not hard to understand. Mookie was going to ask for the moon in his contract and the Red Sox weren't going to give him that much. One of the few, maybe only, team that would is the Dodgers.

Dodgers had the Sox over the barrel on that trade and they got what they could.

Bad, yes, but understand the context.

I mean this kind of deal isn’t that uncommon in the MLb.

Verdugo has 11.7 war career

Just offhand Alex verdugo did more than the Detroit return for Justin Verlander-Franklin Perez (centerpiece never made it out of the minors)

Daz Cameron career war -1.7 ops .585

Jake rogers Career 0 war ops .646

Verlander went to multiple all star games and cy young’s with Astros.

Which say what you want about his age and them thinking he was “washed up” he was 2nd in the cy young in 2016 with the tigers so that’s not an excuse

I’m not going into the time but the pirates got similar overall returns for an entering his prime gerrit cole. Only player who amounted to anything was musgrove who they traded before he developed.

This is complete revisionist nonsense and at no point did the Red Sox take into consideration which team could sign Mookie long term during their trade negotiations. What a ridiculous statement

What actually happened is the Red Sox accepted the best package which in hindsight was terrible. At the time, Alex Verdugo, Connor Wong, and Jeter Downs were considered to be premier prospects. All three were busts.

Mookie intended on going to free agency, but COVID happened and he signed with the Dodgers given the uncertainty of the market. He’s discussed this at length on more than one occasion.

You completely made up this “context”

I’m almost certain he was DFA’d and that wasn’t a trade.

No, for most people the modern era is understood. I forget you have to specifically designate that era for you boomers or you’ll go on some nonsensical rant about the Sparky McChucklefrick trade in 1978.

They care. WCA falls all over himself seething about 2017 Astros to this day.

WCA and Jerry are both pathetic hypocrites when it comes to selective outrage over cheating.

The Dodgers traded Yordan Alvarez to the Astros for Josh Fields.
