And the big reason why this was the best package available was because there weren’t many teams available willing to sign him to the kind of contract he was demanding. Plus, he made it pretty well known he wanted out of Boston. Boston had zero leverage for that trade.

The facts are that the Red Sox met Betts’ contract demands twice and he refused to sign both deals. He didn’t want to stay in Boston.

No, they didn’t. Quit lying. They were about 45mm below what he wanted and ultimately signed for (345 mm).

He’s also discussed in great detail how after he was traded he was headed to free agency because he felt a responsibility to other players. He only signed with the Dodgers because of COVID.
So, there goes your other bullshite narrative about the Red Sox seeking a trade partner that could sign Mookie long term and limiting their leverage as if any organization has or would ever prioritize this in a trading partner.

Lou Gorman traded Bagwell for Larry Andersen. He was a terrible GM that was enamored with dead pull right handed hitters, who didn't put an emphasis on pitching, especially middle relief and closers. Its what costed them the 86 WS. Dave Stapleton should've been at 1st during the later innings in G6. Also, Joe Sambito, a lefty should've pitched to Mookie. Game 6 still pissed me off. John McNamara and Gorman lost that series. Oil Can Boyd, as cracked out as he was, was available. Carry on
