I totally agree with the OP. I have been saying this all day.

I also think that the story becomes way easier to piece together if Manti Te'o is gay. It makes a ton of sense.

There really is NO DOUBT that its the only "save" that he could make at this point IMO.
its the only way he can come across as a victim, a sympathetic character, and not a total POS.
Was afraid of his mormon family, his catholic school, and the football culture? That's an easy sell, and he'd become an icon instantaneously.

Yes, but does he want to give up those things to save face publicly? I don't think he's willing to trade all of those things just to become a gay icon of some sort.
Hey, maybe he would like to become a gay icon

If he's actually gay?
What better way to get at the very least his family to realize what they did to him and embrace and accept him? Who really gives a shite about ND.
Obviously if he isn't actually gay, it would be a terrible move.

Yea my last post was based on the OP which implied that the only way Te'o comes out ok is if he comes out, even if he isn't gay.
Or perhaps he is gay and he doesn't want to come out of the closet on sportcenter.

The Rainbow Connection Kermit the Frog sang about.
Has to be one, right?
He could be the next big gay athlete, like Japanese skateboarder Tim Osaki.

There is no positive for him, nor should there be.
Coming out gay, is a world of hurt all its own. (pun intended) I don't have an opinion if he is or not, but the stigma of being gay in pro sports is still really bad. No NIKE endorsements will be coming in. Gay advocates come out the big winner having a spotlight for their platform.
Playing dumb is the way to go, the heat will suck for a while but eventually something else will happen to appease our ADD appetite for destruction of celebrities. Just Deny, deny, deny.
If it comes out as something he was actively involved in, which it sure seems by the timeline and the continued bullshite that was spewed regarding the story, there is no explaining it and the guy will never have the respect of teammates to last in an NFL locker room.
It doesn't seem like he's got the maturity or decision making skills to be able to handle what is coming around the bend for him. Pundits are saying his draft stock won't be hurt. Yea right, this has Ryan Leaf all over it if he can't manage the ridicule he's getting. He seems like sociopath to me.

He would also get beat with soap in tube socks in the locker room like Private Pyle in Full Metal Jacket

As someone who is a Mormon who is bi I can safely tell you that if he comes out his family will never speak to him again and the church will excommunicate him. So if either his religion or family is important to him he will stay in the closet.

Gay story sounds plausible, but why go through saying the girl died if he was really gay. Why not just say they broke it off. It just doesn't line up.

The gay angle also depends on te'o being in on it from day 1.
