GSP started out as a striker but has become one of if not the best wrestler in the UFC. He is one of the most gifted athletes in mma.
Silva is still very young, but for a while has been considered the next big thing out of Chute Boxe. Chute Boxe is a Brazil based team known for their Thai Boxing. He is no scrub on the ground either though. He is good, but not ready for Machida IMO.

How much will the going up in weight affect Penn in your opinion?
Penn's fought at WW many times before and handled the size difference well. The size difference in his first fight with GSP wasn't a big deal, IMO. The key for him is his cardio. If he is in shape he will be tough for any WW to beat. When he isn't he runs out of gas in rounds 2/3.

This plus GSP's massive improvement wrestling are the reasons I'm taking GSP for the win.

Keep in mind also, if GSP wins that will set up another great fight with him fighting Anderson Silva for the middleweight belt.
Whoever wins, someone will make history. Either Penn holding two belts, or a super fight between GSP vs Silva.

I really really want to see GSP vs Silva. GSP can possibly win, but Silva is about the only guy I can think of that I would give a good shot at kicking the shite out of GSP.

GSP doesn't have the chin to trade with AS. Otherwise, he has everything he needs to be competetive for that fight, sans a little size.

Don't want to say where I currently work (you don't know who's watching), but I did use to work at Wells Fargo, as well. Were you at the main branch?

Say whatever you want, but whoever had the balls to cover their own production costs to get the original season of TUF on spike in order to get them to show it had more to do with the MMA explosion then the pioneers did.
Not that starting and the explosion are the same thing, but after the first UFC the explosion of MMA happened around the world. Why do you think Pride and all the others sprang up shortly after that?
As for TUF. That was the massively huge step to make MMA a mainstream sport. More people could watch and it became more sport than "human cockfighting" (and some of you voted for McCain)

McCain saved mma by forcing it to go legit.

Just to further that point, After he lost the title to Serra he started training with the Canadian wrestling team, and his cardio and focus became insane. He went from a good fighter to one of the best ever.

My guess would be 80% of this thread did, including me.

That's debatable, and hell that what internet boards of for right.
He may have speed up what was happening anyway. UFC could never have been as popular as it is today with the side show it started out as. UFC still did a lot of fighting when it was "banned" and Pride was taking off in Japan.

Regardless, thank god for that first season of TUF. I had seen a couple matches and new some of the fighters before that, but we didn't have as much access as we do now. Thank you, UFC and Spike!

I'm not sure if it was his first MMA fight or UFC fight, but I saw Chuck Liddell talking about one time his first fight being in some rec center in La. I think Lake Charles.

I'm surprised they don't try to have one in New Orleans now. I'm sure La. has as many fans for it as anyone and N.O. is always a great environment for any event.
