Soccer fans make me chuckle. They are so interested in being accepted by mainstream sports fans that they lash out.

This isn't lashing out. This is broadcasting our future takeover of American sports.

The new big 3 will be soccer, baseball, and basketball. Probably in that order in about 15-20 years.

15-20 years may be a little ambitious, but I do think the popularity changes for youth sports and EA sports games are interesting. Both look to be heading towards soccer.

I see the popularity change in video games as a better indication of popularity of professional sports. I grew up playing soccer, and I did watch a good number of EPL games, USA games, etc. But most of my teammates did not watch soccer.

The guys who grew up playing FIFA are more interested in the sport. Most of them follow the premier league, are excited for the World Cup, and know the roster of the national team.

None of us follow MLS, but I guess we don't really have a team nearby to root for.

Baseball is not America's sport anymore. Sorry.

MLS was still behind MLB in that poll, yet soccer is now Americas sport.

Ehh, I don't know how good an indicator that is. Some people just like game play.

Obviously anecdotal, but Fifa '98 is the reason I got a Playstation back in the day, but it never really made me want to watch or follow soccer. I just liked the game.

My whole point is that it is no surprise that MLB is losing ground. They do a horrible job marketing their players and in game entertainment.

Betas and bronies also at an all time high. Coincidence?

Probably not. They're probably would-be baseball fans.

It really just sounds like you don't like baseball.

I like baseball and will watch my Mariners any chance I get even though they suck, but I also like soccer and honestly if there is a match between two powerhouses like Real Madrid and Barcelona then I would rather watch that then a baseball game. I can always catch another baseball game seeing how there are so many but watching two clubs who don't get to play each other all the time just seems more exciting to me.

MLS TV ratings are below the wnba right now.

Soccer has been a strong youth sport in the usa due to its low barrier to entry. But does not translate to viewers later in life or youth viewers

Barrier of entry is no lower than football or basketball. And considering how much the sport is growing both in participation and attendance I'd say its doing alright and will continue to grow.

Exactly. Baseball revenue and attendance are higher now than ten years. It is hardly a sport on the decline. Here in the Midwest there is a lot more interest among all people and young people in the Twins, Brewers, Cubs, White Sox, Tigers and even more interest in minor league baseball.

While soccer will be popular as a recreational sport and I like soccer it won't surpass baseball, football, or basketball or even hockey. I doubt you will find more young people into the MLS over the Red Wings, Blackhawks, and Wild.

Soccer will be popular but more young kids here in the twin cities care more about baseball than soccer.
