The minimum payroll should be around 120 million or so. That you’ve got one team spending 350 million and another spending 60 is an absolute joke.

I upvoted you. It felt dirty and weird but I did it.

MLB is better when the Chicago Cubs are good. There is no longer any disputing that.

The ratings must be manipulated somehow. It's still a boring arse sport.

I do not have an answer for the increase in viewership, but the social media campaign on TikTok has been stellar. I’m not a baseball watcher but have loved the videos from MLB and MLB affiliated accounts.

t I hate that we have MLB fan bases with significant portions created by two cable stations from the 80’s.

For me anything that helps create passion for the sport is o.k. if it was born of superstation fandom so be it.

Personally I'm a Cub fan but it pre-dates WGN for me for 10 years, WGN just enabled me to watch my favorite team every day whenever we finally got cable, which made me even more passionate for the game and the team.

Imagine how much better they'd be doing if they dropped all the gay pride stuff.

Money. International market more viewers and ads.

No I completely understand. I'm meaning why should I care about them celebrating high ratings that include the Japanese market when you can't even watch your local team?

I guess what I'm saying is, them putting the Japanese market in with US viewership just shows you that they don't care about the American fan. They'll continue to shove the Dodgers down your throat because they're raking in money from the international market.

But yeah... it was all Ippei's fault

Plenty of teams have the minimal amount. Baseball doing well in an American moment where there is a heightened interest in normalcy/tradition over recent years of radicalism/turmoil isn't surprised to me.

This is probably not a popular comment on here but I think the pitch clock saved MLB

While many opposed it at first, including the players, very few left who do and now I can tell you - especially the players, they all love it now.

I just love that I can go catch a Braves game in the middle of the week and be home by 11:00 instead of 1am

Cubs, Mets, Yankees, Dodgers all in first place in their divisions probably has more to do with this than anything else

Agree and I don’t get why this is being downvoted. Southern California has 25 million people. NYC area is about the same. Chicago is 10 million. Thats 60 million with a 1st place team in their home market. Not to mention the huge national following the Yankees, Dodgers, and Cubs have. Nothing controversial about saying that big market name brands playing well draws fan interest.

All that and I hate to say it, but the Cardinals are having a good season and on the Cubs heels. They have a good following too. Detroit having a great start too, and that's no small market either.

Yes, and not only the pitch clock but they limited the mound visits which was also huge. Before catchers could go out there as many times an inning as they wanted. There was no restriction on the delays that could be caused by hitters adjusting batting gloves, pitchers just standing there holding the ball, catchers constantly running out to the mount...it was maddening.

It was loooong overdue that something be done. I remember listening to Ian Happ's podcast around the time the new rules were instituted, and he was not sure about it, he's an adjust the batting gloves between each pitch guy. The guys that did the podcast with him were old minor league teammates that were still in the minors at the time. They told him after you get used to it you will love it - they were right he did. Players don't like 3-1/2 hour games either.
