If calling balls and strikes super accurately was possible, we'd already have seen it. It's not easy.
The ump vs madbum was 100% wrong but bitching about a strike zone that's a ball or two off the plate is crap. I'd love to see any of you guys do better, and this is a job that just about anyone can do, so go for it.
Last year's data showed that the ump was correct 94% of the time.

I do think there's this perception that the technology is there to call balls and strikes 100% accurately but that perception is not close to accurate at this time. Those boxes you see on t.v. are not 100% accurate. Talk to some of the folks in the minors where they have experimented with robo-umps and there are some stories.
You can YouTube a few examples of robo umps really screwing up balls and strikes very easily.

In that poster's defense, I think Madbum was being a little ridiculous and was obviously miffed for giving up one so early. The calls were inconsistent, but I don't think they were objectively bad.
If he'd gotten a "don't start that shite" and then went off on the HP ump, I think his ejection would have been pretty well earned
Of course, whatever happened with Dan Bellino changed the situation entirely, and that's inexcusable and should merit (ha) action from MLB.

Minus non-objective calls like swinging strikes and pitches where no call is made like balls put in play. Which probably make up a fairly large number of total pitches.

Has mlb issued a statement or punishment for the ump? When I saw it I was like wth? I thought bumgardener must have done something but even so the ought it was uncalled for.
