Robertson for Clifford alone makes this a win for the Yankees.

Besides finding another reliever, third base is a need -- offensively speaking only -- that the Red Sox appear set in filling in the two weeks remaining before the trading deadline.

Todd Frazier of the White Sox could very well be that guy they trade for but according to an American League source familiar with the Red Sox' thinking, the ballclub is scouting and doing its due diligence on at least six other third basemen/infielders.

Those players are: New York Mets T.J. Rivera and Asdrubal Cabrera, Pittsburgh's David Freese and Josh Harrison, San Francisco's Eduardo Nunez and Miami's Martin Prado.

The Red Sox have been connected to multiple other third basemen, and FanRag’s Jon Heyman adds Wilmer Flores of the Mets to the pile (Twitter link). Heyman notes that the Sox have scouted Flores, Asdrubal Cabrera and T.J. Rivera recently, which meshes with a recent report from the Boston Herald’s Michael Silverman

One tweet from Rosenthal a couple of days ago that flew under our radar: the Dodgersare open to dealing either Brandon Morrow or Sergio Romo to create an opening for the potential addition of  a lefty reliever.

Evan 9:34 Jeff, it seems like teams are moving quickly this year before the deadline. Four major moves by July 19th seems like a lot. Any thoughts as to why? And will we still get a flurry of activity on July 31?

Jeff Sullivan 9:36 I don't know how much activity there will actually be on July 31, because there are still so many teams seemingly caught in the middle. That's going to depend on the standings. But as for the recent big moves -- it seems like teams trading for players should want to have them for as long as possible. So they're incentivized to try to get things done earlier on. Trades now might be easier to negotiate than ever, since every team has similar evaluation tools, so it's possible there's just less value in hanging onto an asset until the last possible hour

Teams making deals earlier to get a head start on pushing for a playoff spot. Hell waiting 2 weeks can essentially knock you out, while acquiring players can keep you in it and strengthen your position.

I've been a Yankee fan for 31 years I was named after a Yankee its in my blood. Joe Girardi is the worst manager we've had since I've been watching them and if the Boss were still alive hedve already been fired a few years ago.

Not every prospect has a Cody Bellinger start to their career, and Devers would be thrown into a pennant race at 20 for his first exposure to MLB pitching.

Get a cheap rental for this season, bring up Devers after the super 2 deadline next year. The plan makes sense.

Well yeah, Bellinger is obviously an outlier and I don't think anyone would expect Devers to have that sort of impact but Boston needs a power bat and Nunez is far from it. They have enough speedy guys with good gloves.

Power is a premium and if they're not going to pay what it costs to acquire it, then promote it from within. I wish they'd bring the kid up for the 6 game road trip they're about to go on. Let him make his debut on the road where there's not much hometown pressure and see what he's got.

Does the name Xander Bogaerts ring a bell?

Well it kind of supports his argument since Bogaerts didn't exactly do much.

The Yankees are so pathetic right now. I kind of have this bad feeling that they just aren't going to turn it around.

You're lucky that the rest of the AL is kinda in the same boat after Tampa

The Yankees are 0-8-1 in their last 9 series.

I've been watching the Yankees for a long time, and this is the worst stretch I have ever seen. They've had a ton of injuries, but it feels like that west coast trip about a month ago just completely took the life out of them. They haven't recovered since.

The are awful in one-run games. They have blown 18 or 19 saves on the season, which I'm pretty sure is the most in baseball. I just think they have no confidence or heart. But I guess it's hard to have those feelings when you know you should have a way better record than you do, but you're sitting 3 games over .500.

They really need to at least split this 4-game series with Seattle, before they go home for a 9 games. Tomorrow will be their first game with all of their new additions available, so hopefully they look at it as somewhat of a fresh start.

We'll see. I don't feel good about it.
