I took that as him asking if the turnaround in his career this year is just a 1 year wonder.

Considering he hasn't pitched in the majors since 14 and when he did he had a 6+ ERA for Texas. Then he spent a few years in Japan, so obviously he was not expected to produce how he is. So yes, did he turn it around based on what he had previously done in the majors. Is this sustainable foe him, did he correct his issues in Japan, or is this just a fluke and next year get will revert.

He pitched 3 years Japan not 1, went 31-13 with a 2.18 ERA.
Cards signed him without seeing him in person.

Was supposed to say "a few"

Has Mikolas turned it around or is he a one year wonder. If Cards believe one year it makes sense to move him now while his value is high.
Looking at his numbers, outside of the 2014 season. His numbers for the rest of his career look at least solid.

Still we've seen and heard playing in Japan is equivalent to AAAA ball, that middle ground between AAA and the majors. Some believe it is as good as MLB as well.
Not saying that the Cards should move him, but if they believe he will regression then he, not Martinez would be a viable person with his contract.

They tried to sign him for more than two years but Mikolas balked at that because he wanted another opportunity to hit the market. I don't think they're worried about a regression.

Based on what scouts told the Cards which led to them signing him, I would say Mikolas is not a one year wonder. As I said earlier, the Cards will probably extend him either this offseason or at some point next year.
quote:
What the Cardinals saw in scouting reports, saw awhile back in person, saw in the analytics, and saw on video, Mikolas felt at his fingertips.
A seventh-round pick out of high school in 2009, he bounced around the minors as a reliever and a starter, up from Class AAA and back down, and after 2014 with Texas jumped at a chance to sign in Japan. A two-year stint became three and he earned about half as much as the Cardinals would eventually offer. He also learned the value of strikes. Mikolas had a 2.18 ERA in 424 2/3 innings for Yomiuri, and the numbers that elevated him in the Cardinals’ search was a 9.0 strikeouts-per-nine-innings rate in 2017 and a 1.5 walk rate. In his career in the contact-oriented league, he struck out five for every one walk.
How he did it — with a mix of pitches and unapologetically driving strikes — didn’t so much change the lens on how the Cardinals see that league’s stats for future use but affirm how the Cardinals evaluate their own minor-leaguers for advancement.

I still think it's interesting that Mikolas, Mike Fiers, and JD Martinez all played together at Nova Southeastern. Three MLB players of some note on the same D2 team.

Manny to the Phillies come Wednesday morning,” reports Giglio, citing a friend in the industry with a source embedded inside the Orioles organization.
“Offer is worse than both the Yankees and Dodgers – Andy MacPhail is a magician,” another one of Giglio’s texts apparently read from his source.

Jon Heyman ? @JonHeyman Breaking; The Dodgers appear to be the leading contender for superstar Manny Machado as talks head toward the finish line. The situation is fluid and brewers and phillies may still have an outside chance. Barring turnabout, deal should be done this week. Story comin on @Fancred

Jon Heyman ? Verified account @JonHeyman The Machado situation is still fluid, and d-backs are also said to have outside chance, along with brewers and phillies. But LA leads.
