I wonder how much is Dombrowski and how much is the ownership he works for dictating he win now. He’s built good farm systems before in Montreal and Miami and I know Illitch wanted to win a title before he died. When you’re Boston it’s not as important as a Houston or Cleveland but it would give them some flexibility as far as making a trade.

I don't think this is going to happen. I have a feeling our CF will be Heyward if he continues to struggle at the plate. Either that or Almora breaks out.

i also have a feeling a lot of that is coming from how they have graduated so much talent

Moncada Kopech Espinoza Basabe Mauricio Dubon Manny Margot were all top ten prospects in their system at one point that I know of that he’s traded since coming on. They’ve graduated Benintendi Devers and Swihart that I can think of off the top of my head and I’m sure there’s others, but I would say more of it has come from trades

Travis Shaw had graduated but was traded as well

I'm just thinking in recent memory they've graduated betts, JBJ, boegaerts, benintendi, and devers

Obviously the trades play a part, but they've also graduated a lot of guys within the last 3 years

Yea just like the Cubs. They are in the 20’s now but have a roster full of 25 & younger guys. Some others were traded for pieces like Quintana

I’m just talking from since Dombrowski has taken over which was what the quote said. Betts/JBJ/Bogaerts came up a few years before that

Both JBJ and Bogaerts came up the year they won the WS i believe. Betts was either that year or the year after

I think the Cubs are in much better shape than the Red Sox as far as their overall young talent goes. Their young guys on the MLB roster are better and they have depth in a couple spots there with the middle infielders and Schwarber they could deal from to get a top SP if they needed to.

Sure, but I guess my point was that as a whole, the system has graduated a lot of talent over the past few years which had led to their current ranking. My comment really wasn't about dombrowski personally

Mookie Betts won his Arb hearing and will earn $10.5 mil instead of the $7.5 mil the Red Sox wanted to pay him

Per sources and reports, delay on Darvish seems to be stemming from number of factors: Efforts of #Yankees and #Dodgers to clear salary; entrance of new teams such as #Brewers into bidding; Darvish’s agents waiting to get their price

maybe they are waiting to see if the dodgers or yankees get involved to make the cubs more encouraged to give that 5th year

Cubs wont get into a bidding war for Darvish imo. Think they would just focus on Arrieta at that point.

Yu has 500 more IP on his arm compared to Arrieta, too. It's funny Jake is taking a back seat for a guy w/ less mileage who has been better than Yu, albeit in the NL

Dombrowski always trades his prospects for proven stars. It almost worked in Detroit. And I doubt Red Sox fans will miss those prospects every time Sale and Kimbrel takes the mound.

Not sure the Yankees will get into it, although I was wrong on Stanton. They have about 15 million left to add an infielder and then the rest is for possible mid-season trades
