Sounds like they'd be better off on unemployment
I think max unemployment is around $450 a week and that's if you were making over $50,000 a year for the previous two years.
If these guys were making $400 a week, then they hadn't put much into the system via taxes and would get less than half of what you'd normally make so for them $180/week.

The A's are just going to stop paying their Minor Leaguers but they won't be able to sign with anyone else or collect unemployment.

i love when these jackasses in mlb, nba, nfl cry about wages. these guys in minor league baseball grind and get paid peanuts.
And if they make the majors they're gonna want their money like the players in the majors now.

Which 5th round pick would you rather be?
That was his signing bonus, around 1/2 of the 137 players drafted above him will make the majors, but they a nice financial head start, even with low minor league pay. If part of the 40 man roster, the min. pay is $46,000, not bad for 3 months work. If they make to majors even for just one game, health care for life.
but if you don't make the 53 man roster- (>80% of 5th round picks will play one season in the NFL) It might not be with the team that drafted them or the year they were drafted.
At the end of the 2018 season, 53% of the end-of-season rosters had spent time in the NBA G League during their careers. Every NBA had at least six players with G League experience.

Off-Season Pay (OTA’s/Mini Camp): $235 per workout – 3 to 4 per week depending

The NBA G League announced today the salaries for the 2018-19 season: players under NBA G League contracts will earn a base salary of $7,000 per month – or $35,000 – for the five-month regular season.
In addition to their salaries, players under NBA G League contracts will continue to have the opportunity to earn additional money through affiliate player bonuses and NBA Call-Ups. This season, about one quarter of players under NBA G League contracts also earned an average of $44,000 in NBA affiliate player bonuses.
The NBA G League also pays bonuses to players on NBA G League playoff teams and to those recognized as end-of-season performance award winners.

I find it funny that teams like the Mariners and Cardinals (who I am a fan of) put out press releases today stating that they'll be paying their minor leaguers going forward, while cutting 40 guys from the rolls (or 50 in the case of the Mariners).
Got to control the narrative.

On any given roster, but especially the lower division ones like single-A, there's basically only a handful of guys that are real MLB prospects.
Everybody knows who's going to the show and who isn't. I imagine the bulk of those guys barely hanging onto a roster spot were all cut.
Baseball is going to suffer the most from all of this. Minor Leagues not only offer a shot at the show for the players, but the small market entertainment factor is devastating if you lose those teams.
Tickets in most MiLB parks are like $8, which means it's one of the few reasonably priced entertainment options left for families.
You can go to the park with the wife and kids, feed everyone and have a good time for well under $100, or about the cost of one ticket for a normal MLB game.

Lowest in the nation is MS @ $235
Highest in the nation is MA @ $1234 if you have children
But with Trump's package you add $600 your state's total.

And those experiences build fans of the MLB teams. And people that will spend money on MLB swag and tickets in the future.
The owners are cutting off their player pool, but also cutting off an aspect of fan development as well. It's pretty shortsighted, IMO.

No one cares about it so much, the owners make enough money to pay these guys these monster contracts.

lulz. The minors are a tryout. You have a short window to make it up, or you never will. I think the window is 4 years.

A) the Marlins/Zephyr relationship isn’t representative
B) Given that teams change affiliates regularly the minor league fan experience helps to create MLB fans, not necessarily of the team with which they are affiliated at that specific time

If true, this won’t bode well for them legally.
