As they should, imo. I also think that this seems very fair, and I also agree that the players won’t accept it. When’s the last time a disagreement at this level was solved with the first proposal?

Would teams have to reduce their payrolls for the 2027 season? How does that work for a team that has multiple guys under long-term deals?

The mlb really needs a salary floor but players arent gonna accept a cap, certainly not one this low.

Probably phased in for both ends. Otherwise it's going to be a good time to be a free agent with many teams having to spend a lot to get to the floor.

This is a far better deal than I expected as an initial proposal from the MLB.

Cap kinda doesnt matter if you are guaranteed 50% of revenue
Just forces the contracts/money to be shifted to teams other than the dodgers, mets and yankees

The players are going to be accepting a cap, or we won't be having baseball. The Dodgers have made sure of that the past couple seasons. Now it may be higher than that proposal, or a higher floor, but a cap is gonna happen eventually.
The more interesting thing to me is going to be seeing how they handle the deferred contract situation with the cap.

The players won’t go for this, even with a salary floor being that high.
That being said, the floor is higher than the payroll of about 14 teams and the cap is lower than the payroll of about 9 teams, so implementing it likely gets fricky in the first season or so if it happens.

The Marlins and Indians have the lowest payrolls in baseball but are fairly competitive so far this season.
OTOH, the Mets are expensive and a goddamn dumpster fire.
