LB and the MLB Players Association announced jointly on Wednesday that Players Weekend will be a player-focused field festival of sorts, different than anything seen before at the top rung of the sport. In addition to nicknames on the backs of jerseys made by Majestic, players can wear and use uniquely colored and designed spikes, batting gloves, wristbands, compression sleeves, catcher's masks and bats.

Leader in the clubhouse so far is Kyle Seager's jersey that says "Corey's Brother"

Brock Holt not doing Steve Holt is an embarrassment to America.

It's been 16 years since the XFL ended and sports leagues are still stealing original ideas first introduced by the XFL. Vince McMahon is the GOAT.

So Alex Claudio's jersey has Chomo on the back...

And apparently FB and Twitter was quick to point out what chomo actually means...

The story behind Votto's is pretty cool:

quote:

The nickname stems from Votto’s friendship with former Reds outfielder Shin-Soo Choo. The two played only one year together, in 2013. Choo started the season hot, hitting .337/.447/.554 in the first month. Every day when they crossed paths, Votto would explain how he was trying to catch Choo.

Halfway through the year, Votto came up with a metaphor for his pursuit.

“Have you ever been to a dog track?” Votto asked Choo.

“Yep,” Choo replied.

“You know those rabbits in the middle the spin around the center of the dog track that dogs chase but can never catch?” Votto asked.

“Yep,” Choo said again.

“That’s how I feel about you,” Votto said. “No matter how much I chase, I can’t catch you.”

Choo then explained that the Korean word for rabbit is ‘tokki,’ and a nickname for Choo was born. When Votto’s numbers surpassed Choo’s toward the end of that year, Choo decided the nickname shold go both ways. Choo will have ‘Tokki 1’ on his jersey for Players Weekend.

Yes, it was a totally original idea when the XFL put nick names on jerseys.

NOT!
