looks like we need a net that goes around the whole court. or, even maybe a cage.

At the VERY LEAST, if the object thrown at or on the court is not a dangerous item (a stuffed animal and not a battery, for example), the officials should have the basic common sense to have the PA announcement to warn fans rather than immediately call a technical.

posted a thread about this on the SEC board pointing out the absurdity of punishing the team in this situation and most everyone was completely dismissive of it.
They apparently see no problem at all with punishing players for the action of one lone fan the players have absolutely no control over whatsoever.
To punish the players, coaches, and the 99.99% of fans who did nothing wrong for the actions of one lone idiot is pretty much the definition of injustice.

Saints vs Rams they had the PA announcer warn everyone to not throw objects on the field.

Eh. Hard to know how much that actually impacted the outcome. Q still had another FT to shoot regardless of that call.

Like little yellow flags? When was this PA made? Might explain a lot.

I say we embrace this and have a stuffed animal tossing contest at halftime of the next game.
Or have one that the crowd tosses around to each other during the game. Rule is it can't touch the court.
Like a big taunting game of "I'm not touching you..." aimed at sec.

So what's stopping a visiting fan from throwing something on the floor in a close game to draw a technical foul on the home team.
Hell just get a bunch of buddies to do it with you at random moments during the game and give your team 5-6 extra free throws.
But yeah, dumb rule

Exactly. Refs rarely call a tech in that situation and usually give out a warning first.

It's time to start bringing the opposing teams stuffed animals to games.
