With 0.5 seconds to play in a tie game, a fan tossed a stuffed animal onto the court in Georgia. The Bulldogs were assessed a technical foul. Mississippi St made the FT, and won the game. Wow

I feel like they should stick with referring to the schools by name and not mascot in this situation

Pretty lame to call a technical, had zero influence on the free throw.

The reaction from the coaches on Ms St is laughable. Bunch of losers praying for any way to win a game.

So what's stopping a visiting fan from throwing something on the floor in a close game to draw a technical foul on the home team.

I say we embrace this and have a stuffed animal tossing contest at halftime of the next game.

Exactly what I was thinking. Why is the home team assessed a technical for something a fan did anyway?

Kind of shitty they call the tech without a warning. Usually the coach has an opportunity to get on the mic and tell his fans to calm their tits.

I posted a thread about this on the SEC board pointing out the absurdity of punishing the team in this situation and most everyone was completely dismissive of it.

They apparently see no problem at all with punishing players for the action of one lone fan the players have absolutely no control over whatsoever.

To punish the players, coaches, and the 99.99% of fans who did nothing wrong for the actions of one lone idiot is pretty much the definition of injustice.

Seems like a really dumb rule.

Also it appears the guy was still going to get a 2nd free throw right?

Awful rule. Fine the schools for this behavior instead of punishing the players.

I'm going to have my wife pack a stuffed Smokey toy to the LSU/Tenn game on Saturday.

Home team is responsible for crowd control. Since the stuffed animal was thrown during the free throw the correct call us to call a technical since it “impacted” the play

Had they not called the game it would have been finished under protest.

Correct ruling.

Slightly misleading because he still had 1 FT left anyways, but it made things a whole lot easier when he just needed to hit one of his final three attempts.

Dumb decision by our fan, and as soon as it was thrown on the court I knew it was a tech. It’s the same thing if you storm the court early.

Pretty sure there is a similar rule in all sports. The beauty in basketball is that the fans can be right on top of the action. That said, they should have treated it in the same way they do a streaker in football. Escort out as quickly as possible and resume play.

When the stuffed toy hit the court, how many Georgia players flopped?

Yes that's terrible, but Coach K routinely dog cusses the refs each game and never gets a T or even a warning.
