He's not wrong. New video board and mild updates to the suites? Yeah that's not a renovation at all. $28 million is more or less just basic maintenance and repairs for a stadium of that size.

Wants and needs. They’ve been packing it in on the bleachers for over a hundred years in most programs, I think they’ll keep selling tickets.

Lol...this LSU fan lives 20 miles from that MSU stadium and to be honest the reason it is $28 million is due to the fact that nobody gives a damn about football! MSU is a hockey and roundball school.

It won’t be long before every college team has their own T Boone Pickens who basically takes ownership of the program unofficially. When that happens, the little guy fans and their little money will be irrelevant.
They’ll still charge for tickets, but the big guys will be writing checks that equal what they’d make on tickets every year, and it will be a requirement if you’re trying to compete in a P4 conference

Decrease capacity with chairbacks throughout and charge slightly more
You know have same revenue, happier fans, and a better atmosphere with actual full stadium

Iowa sold out every game in 2024.
Most of the schools with big fan bases did. And the few thousand empty seats in the far flung upper decks of the mega stadia were sold seats too.
The idea that you can keep a rowdy atmosphere with less density near the field is hilarious. Lot of programs have tried using pro stadia and the vibe always blows, most abandoned it.

You can make up on the lost revenue by increasing ticket prices since the seats are all better now

And no offense, I’m not really talking to fanbase whose stadiums only have a less than 70k total right now

The OP is about Spartan Stadium, which holds about 75k.
I get it if LSU wants to drop some seats because the experience blows and it’s rarely full just because they added on to service demand during an historic run of success. They don’t need a 100k seat stadium. Few do. But what will happen is they’ll reduce seating near the field, between the 20s, and leave alone the trash seats far away. You can’t argue that taking people out of the stadium down near the field won’t result in reduced noise levels.

Spartan Stadium sucks and it is small.
I've been to the Big House, the Shoe, and Neyland.... all over 100K.
Also been to ND and the Swamp.
Sparty really struggles to fill that stadium. I went to that classic hail mary game of MSU/Wisky when Russell Wilson was the UW QB. My friend and I easily scalped tickets in the lower bowl for $30 a pop. (this was early in the day, so we didn't even wait for them to drop closer to kickoff) This game was a huge deal for them as Gameday was there and it was a night game. That was during one of their once-per-generation little runs too.

This trivia question also happened on their video boards before their Super Bowl to engage the fans. They would rather go 1-11 and beat Michigan compared to 11-1.
