I personally think too much hype is given to race when it comes to sports.
Why is there a need to justify why one group is having more success in a sport. No one cares about the lack of black athletes in hockey, tennis, blah blah, blah.
I think its a lot of insecurity.

They are all from West Africa.

What Johnson fails to acknowledge and what Jimmy the Greek was fired for was that it has far more to do with selective breeding by slave masters than genetics alone. The strong were bred to the strong for their manual labor ability. It's very unpleasant to be thought of and treated as livestock, but it's a fact.
Otherwise, I'd like to see a list of native West Africans who've won gold medals in sprints. It's not where they came from. It's what happened after they got here.

Exactly. But not just selective breeding, but the survival of the fittest of the guys who came to the US and Caribbean.
West African countries are not wealthy at all so they aren't going to dominate in a ton of sports. But SFP, Kenya and Ethiopia are even poorer and they do great in the 1500, 3000, 5000 meters, and Marathon races.
While Ghana and Ivory Coast have very good soccer teams, I am not seeing many world class sprinters coming out of West African countries. Or a really disproportionate number of world-class athletes. There are a few guys from Angola and Mozambique running for Portugal, but I think you are completely right about why American, Caribbean, and Brazilian athletes are at the top of their sports.

Cause only white people grow up playing hockey. Do you think if hockey was big in the south there would only be a handful of blacks in the NHL still?
