What's to stop an owner from suing a player that's sitting out while under contract for compensatory damages related to lost revenue? The CBA?

He's been in charge for a while now. Jerry just likes to be in front of the camera and express his opinions. But he's not the real GM anymore. Son basically told him to go to his room back in 2014 when Jerry was crying to draft Johnny Manziel.

Also, Stephen Jones has been exposed since then. He was once thought of as more cerebral than Jerry. He was the one in charge of managing Jerry’s impulsive roster decisions including the salary cap.

However, the Cowboys have been up against cap every single year for 20 years straight, even after Jerry took a step back and Stephen took over negotiations.

Stephen is now known for giving Zeke Elliot a huge deal just as the RB market was catering, while also dragging his feet on new deals to CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons, which end up costing millions extra against the cap when finally signed.

Even Dak’s ridiculous deals would have been much, much cheaper, but Stephen dragged his feet for so long that the QB market was re-set multiple times before Dak was offered a contract on two different occasions.

My issue isn’t whether the nfl should or shouldn’t guarantee contracts, it’s the narrative for decades from owners that they can’t. They can, they don’t want to. And it’s under the guise of “health of the league” when it’s really about money.

Why does this bother you?

You've got the owners, the players, and the fans.

I don't give a frick about the owners or the players.

As a fan, it's terrible for the league as configured (salary cap, etc.) to have guaranteed contracts.

To the degree that it is in place now (some money is guaranteed) that also isn't good for fans. But, it's less of a problem because it's limited to a large degree to elite players.

quote:

It’s not healthy to have 17 and eventually 18 games or half the other shite they implement. It’s money, so just say that.

It's money on both sides. All of that is collectively bargained. As a fan, unless you think fewer games is better, I don't see why you'd care.

You sure such indemnification exists? Seems like that would give the players way too much leverage, the handful of elite players on each team could just threaten to sit out heading into training camp each off season and demand higher salaries every year and the owners would have to acquiesce

He’ll be back in Dallas. Jerry loves people talking about Dallas.

Didn’t Myles Garrett do the same thing?

I hope the Cowboys don’t trade him and make him sit. The players going public and saying dumb shite like “just pay him what you owe him” don’t need to be emboldened by Parsons getting what he wants. They’re players, not the businessmen that actually run the show. I don’t like Jerry Jones but he needs to stick to his guns and show the players their opinion on contract negotiations mean frick all when it doesn’t concern them.

fricking idiot. Rule for thee but not for me

It sounds like they had a handshake agreement in place and everyone was happy in the spring. But then some dipshits got in his ear and told him he was worth more so he backed out.

What? The players don’t have the leverage they think they do. Oh you’re going to sit out? Cool. You’ll get fined plus the longer you sit, the more this story goes away and the more your value is diminished. So you’re losing your value and you’re also being fined for being in breech of first contract you signed.

Players are emotional and stupid. The NFL and Cowboys brand aren’t going to take a hit if a few players sit out for a while. The only people that will get hurt are the players acting like children because they didn’t get $40 million a year instead of $34 million a year

That’s a lot of bitch-speak from a “star” who disappears in big games as much as anyone in the league

So the Cowboys will probably give him a record deal

What’s interesting is that it seems like several teams are starting to stand up to the player demands. McLaurin, Parsons & Hendrickson

Two of these will likely get done and the third is dealing with the most poverty franchise in the league

And Metcalf got traded because he wanted more money.

So he got paid?

Oh, he’ll be held accountable to the contract he signed. He’ll owe whatever penalties he accrues from sitting out. He’ll miss game checks. If he sits the whole season it won’t count towards his contract years.

He’ll definitely be accountable.

If owners could punish a player for holding out, I promise they would.
