Your last point is an interesting one. I was talking to a professor at the University of Houston and asked why they built the football stadium on campus instead of using one of the available stadiums throughout the city.
She said the stadium and the football team help a school transition from a local commuter school to an on-campus environment. As soon as they built the stadium, on-campus living skyrocketed.
There is also a strong positive correlation between number and quality of applicants for a school when the football team is good and is a national brand. Alabama’s success under Saban has had profound effects on the trajectory of the university.
I would surmise that the success of the Miami teams of the early and mid 80s transformed the school quite a bit.
So, it seems like it would make sense for some of the schools you mentioned to shutdown football. However, I imagine they are worried about the negative outcome on enrollment if they did.

I don't think playing in the Dolphins stadium is a problem. That place was rocking in 2017 for the Notre Dame game when Miami started 10-0.

Much like Nebraska, the Miami train has left the station. Ed Reed, Michael Irvin, etc are not flocking there anymore. NIL balances the playing field, it does not tilt it to Miami.

Well that's dumb. Geography still matters.

I feel like the facilities arms race is over. Recruits don’t give a crap about a barber shop in the locker room anymore. They just want dat cash money.

They should play at Marlins Park or build another stadium that is closer.
Where are they going to put it? David Beckham has been trying to find a place to build an mls stadium for the better part of a decade. There’s a UM alum who thinks he can build a stadium closer to campus but still 9 miles away from campus. LINK Needless to say the Coral Gables NIMBYs shite bricks at the idea.

Maybe now someone, LITERALLY ANYONE, can provide a consistent challenge to the only team worth a shite in the entire conference over the last almost decade
Thank Jimbo for that.
Because before Clemson came about, we spent two decades bitching about how there was nobody in the conference to challenge FSU.
Then Bowden retired.
Ironic part is: when Miami joined the ACC, everybody was screaming what you just proclaimed, but it was in regards to FSU, not Clemson.
My advice: don't put your trust in Miami.

FAU did this and the school is taking off. State school though, that also received great funding and had a solid President, (then got kiffen), so it had a bunch of good factors go their way.

As they should. It is a shite idea

Them spending more then one sentence on the parking garage tells you this shite is going to be trash

My high school just spent $22 million upgrading football facilities.

quote:$50 a pop, and there is nowhere, at least around all the athletic facilities, where you can park without paying a fee through a phone app. Except that there is nothing to inform you of that. You just have to find out the hard way.
There is not a lot of parking and they love to give tickets.
That place is a two-bit, petty shithole.

Meanwhile NW spent $250 million a few years ago and UW is dropping $300 large on a new training facility.
I was going to ask if this was a lot or not. Seems like not much at all.
