Miami is only a tv draw against Notre Dame.

Miami isn’t though
Iowa has more games in the top 10 of viewership than Miami this year

I'll allow it. frick them. They already have enough money from their boosters. They can become the next UConn and I won't care.

Miami going independent is suicide
Their fans are the epitome of band wagon. When they are losing, the FSU and Florida flags come out. When i was in Florida, and Canes were shitty, no one had a cane flag on their car. Cut to several years later and making a run for the playoffs and the Flags came back out of the closet.
And do they even have the boosters to go Independent?

Exactly, it's not 1992. There's no massive national and international audience for Miami. They've sucked for a long time.

Among the most watched regular season games last season Miami/ND was 6th. From the top of the list to the next highest watched Miami game there were 8 Bama games, 6 UGA games, and 4 LSU games. The second Miami game was like 30th. It's a small school with a bandwagon fanbase. If there's slippage from a top 5 team to like top 20, independence would be disastrous.

Can we just add Miami, FSU, Clemson, and Virginia Tech to the SEC and then split into 2 divisions. One division with the 10 pre-1992 members and one division with everyone else added since then. 9 game round robin schedule within your own division and then an SECCG between the division winners.
Would be awesome which is how I know it won’t happen

Miami had a nailbiter double OT game against their biggest in-state rival and it didn't even outdraw the terrible Penn State and Michigan game the same week. The whole state of Florida should have been watching that game.

Miami's most watched game averaged 4.63M viewers. There are a dozen teams that average that per game.

Dont get why these schools continue to think they can beat the GOR
That's been reduced after the league settled with FSU and Clemson

Iowa doesn't move the needle with media companies like Miami. Do you think otherwise?

These are dying programs it makes no sense to throw them a lifeline. Especially Florida State.

Dying? What? They are programs going through transitions and changes but those changes are not permanent. They are well funded programs that will cycle back into being contenders. We've all seen this happen time and again.

Florida State is in severe debt. They are so desperate they are considering hiring Jimbo back

A lot of universities are in debt. But, football program money isn't university money. That article about FSU being in debt grabbed the attention of ignorant people. It is a nothing burger in reality. FSU football money is private money like at all these upper tier programs.

To go independent you have to have fan support, like LSU. Miami has the opposite of fan support, much like USC and UCLA. That's why the PAC-10 died and they had to go to the Big-10.

Maybe. But netflix and amazon keep throwing around stupid money for sports content.
They may be able to get a 10 year contract for something close to what SEC and B1G schools are getting.
Who exactly are they gonna play besides FSU and MAYBE ND.
How in world are they gonna get a home and home against any P4 school outside of those 2?
Posted on 10/22/26 at 8:43 pm to RLDSC FAN
A small private school w/a small alumni base going independent sounds like suicide.
