I think the surprise is that Miami wants to regain relevancy status but can only hope to fill a 50k seat stadium.
What other programs in the country compete for titles with a 50k seat stadium? Autzen is one. Any others?

Cincinnati
Not every team needs/can fill 100k seat stadiums

My favorite Coral Gables story is the family that refused to sell their house, so now they are having a high rise built up on three sides of their property.

Not that it’s needed at Miami but the days of building 100k seats or large stadium additions to boost numbers are dead

Minnesota's new football stadium is right at 50k. I think if Miami could build something like this...plus have a retractable roof...they'd be in VERY good shape. Bigger isn't always better...and the reality is that with modern engineering, 50k could be designed to sound like 100k.

They’re having a nice run, but I think Miami wants to become a top tier program again. Cincinnati will be as good as the flash in the pan lets them.

But that’s what I’m asking. Not every team needs it, but the big time ones that compete for championships do.

Was kind of sarcasm

Why? First of all Oregon has done well with zero recruiting base. Miami is still in the middle of 3 of the most talent rich counties.
Big state schools with 30-60K enrollment need bigger stadiums not a small private school.

There are a lot of NIMBYs who will not be happy with having 50,000 UM fans interrupt their "Coral Gables intimate atmosphere" on Saturdays in the fall.
Enter Dexter.

Welp...right on queue, the Coral Gables NIMPY's, School board and Mayor all oppose this plan. At this same time, John Ruiz just added Hightower and Jimmy Johnson to his stadium committee. This is going to be a very highly covered battle for sure...

Too much neighborhood around it.
I don't blame the NIMBY's. I've lived next to Rupp Arena and close to Mile High stadium and both sucked on game days. Had a couple of fights in my front yard between drunks stuck in traffic after games over the years. And if you have some kind of emergency when there is post-game gridlock you're fricked.
The obvious place for a new Canes stadium is Tropical Park, a big park owned by Dade County, not CG, that already has a HS stadium and is about 5 miles from campus. It's also got highway access so folks from Broward County could have decent access.

The "flash" has been going on since Brian Kelly was there in 2007. I think its more than a flash in the pan at this point.
Since 2007
3 - 9 win seasons
3 - 10 win seasons
3 - 11 win seasons
1 - 12 win season
1 - 13 win season

The “new” Boise State?

Cinci has a lot more going for them than Boise has ever had. Boise is hoping to get out of the MWC but is held back by academics, area, and location. Cinci has academics, location, fertile recruiting ground, and is headed to go run the B12 for the foreseeable future.

100%.
Smaller, more efficient stadiums are the future.

For someone that is ignorant to all of this, what does NIMBY stand for?

What are Miami’s facilities like as far as practice fields, weight room, housing, etc.? If that’s not up to an elite standard I would start there and just keep playing at Hard Rock.
Miami’s always been different. I don’t think the stadium is their problem so much as poor coaches and substandard everyday facilities.
