Metal vs. wood bats

How much more power does metal have vs. wood? If a MLB player could hit a 430 ft homer with a wood bat, how much further would it go if he was using a metal one? Is it a big difference?

depending upon design, A LOT. back in my day, them aluminum hollow bats fkd some pitchers days up

I usually hit around 580 ft with metal, so I'm guessing around 460 ft with wood.

Bumping since I know someone knows stats on this. What would happen if MLB used metal bats for a day?

Multiple violent deaths.

In addition to having more bounce, the metal bats also have a much larger "sweet spot" which obviously benefits hitters

Not anymore. BBCOR bats suck cock and really don't have a sweet spot. According to sports science, a MLB ball hit with a wood bat with the same swing speed and launch angle would go 20 feet further than an NCAA ball and metal bat.

Exactly the type of stat I was wondering about. I had wondered if those sports science guys had done something on it.

I'm a 565' man with metal, but oddly enough a 638' man with wood.

The new metal bats are pretty close to wood bats. They hit only slightly further.
The old metal bats used to crush the ball.
My brother plays college baseball right now, so he's had to transition from the old metal bats to the BBCOR bats.
He thinks the new bats suck.

In my experience metal bats have a much larger sweet spot, but if you hit them both perfect they are pretty similar. This is pre BBCOR btw

"Wood bats suck! Why do you think God invented aluminum?"
Name that movie...

Why not transition college ball to wood bats if they are making them very similar performance wise?

Wooden bats break and would become an added expense most programs couldn't afford.

the sponsors pay for the bats

If I would have put 2 seconds to think that through...

My brother has had to buy wood bats for various leagues he's played in, and they aren't cheap.
They are about $100 on average for a wood bat. More for a better one.
So they'd have to spend $100+ every time they break a bat.
It is expensive.
So the aluminum BBCOR bats hit similar to wood bats, and they don't break like wood bats.

Holy crap

Depening on how good you are a player in the minors gets between 16-however many you need per year. Some guys with bad agents are buying their own bats before the season ends. Bad hitter + Dominican throwing 97 everywhere = fire wood for days. shite is so expensive.
