Link?

So CTE is the climate change of the sports world. Normal people know the true and see the science as true. Then you have the Hodges if the world fighting against facts.
The science is very incomplete. Here is what we know.
1. If you played football long enough and hard enought to make it into the NFL, you likely have CTE. If you made it into the NFL and had a long or even medium-length career, then you definitely have CTE.
2. Not every former NFL player is batshit insane. Most are perfectly normal.
3. It follows that you can have CTE and be perfectly normal.
4. It further follows that mere CTE is not in and of itself a debalitating brain condition.
So then what's going on? Is there a certain level of CTE that, once one surpasses, they become batshit crazy? But if you are under that level, then you are not batshit crazy? That's actually my best hypothesis in view of the above.
The science on this will rapidly improve now that we are beginning to be able to see this while people are still alive. When we learn more, I believe that there will be no question that CTE is real. I also believe that there will be no question that the effects were overstated.

Thanks.
So, yeah, why is Hoge the guy writing this book? Are we sure this isn't an elaborate Onion article?

The union was so concerned about their player safety they commissioned exactly zero studies of the issue on their members' behalf. Where are these legions of brain addled CTE zombies from football littered in American society?
Or did CTE become an issue once someone figured out how to squeeze money out of it?

A better man the Hodge shot himself in the chest because he was in so much pain that he wanted doctors to study his brain.
That, ladies and gentleman, is what we call an emotional appeal.
As much as I liked Junior Seau (which I did, a lot), he is one player. When you whittle it down to one individual, it is tough to project anything upon the population.

Absolutely correct

What? Please show me these studies
quote:

WTF?You don't know this at all. Here's a recent study about early onset dementia on NFL and NHL players. It usually is the best predictor of CTE
quote:
Leddy added: “We looked at 21 former professional football and hockey players with an average age of 56. Not one qualified as having early onset dementia.”
He noted that the athletes in the study had played an average of 8 years in their professional leagues, and thus likely had plenty of opportunities to experience concussions. Information from the athletes themselves about how many concussions they remember experiencing was deemed unreliable and was not included in the study.

3. It follows that you can have CTE and be perfectly normal.
Where are you coming up with this?
quote:
believe that there will be no question that CTE is real.
I don't believe anyone is debating this.

No idea if true or not true but it's a serious condition IMO

Has more credibility than this guy
Did you seriously just claim that Merrill fricking Hoge has more credibility than Bob Ley? Bob Ley is one of the last surviving and most respected pure journalists in the world of sports and you think Merrill Hoge is someone you'd put up against that? And you proudly state that opinion in public?
I'm not even mad that's actually amazing.

Growing up and watching him on ESPN with those suits gave me CTE

None of this has been proven

When it comes to CTE and his own personal experiences,
ABSOLUTELY.

GTFO...he's nothing more than a typical ESPN SJW
who's never come close to CONSIDERING another opinion on this subject. If he was a "pure journalists" (whatever that means) he'd present a more balanced perspective on this subject...which he never has.
Oh aND Im sooooo glad you're not upset when someone on a SPORTS MESSAGE BOARD has a different opinion.

This place never fails to dissapoint.

I've said it before. CTE is proven but I don't think it's due to hits in football games. I think it's that crazy that you need to be a great football player

CTE is caused only by repeated brain trauma. It isn't viral. It would be a yuge fricking coincidence if NFL players, who have played football their entire life, got CTE from doing something else. Like, idk, maybe they bang their head against a brick wall everyday?
Keep in mind the first signs of CTE were in the 1920's, in boxers. They called it punch drunk syndrome. Since then there have been a frickin shite ton of studies. And I mean a shite ton.
Please, don't ever repeat the above again. For your sake.

that's probably because CTE in football players, boxers, etc is fricking widely accepted among the scientific community and medical community.

Yep,let's not even CONSIDER another side to this issue and just shut everyone up.
Yep,you're obviously "one of those"
Great book about football amd CTE that actually uses science (God forbid) and skepticism (God forbid) on this subject LINK

Really? This study Didn't involve scientists and PhD's?
Tell me, what is "widely"accepted? Does every person who play in the NFL get CTE?How boxers?Does every pro
boxer get CTE?If not,why not?
You also mentioned a "shite ton"of studies...actually there hasn't been LONG TERM and double blind studies comparing people who get early on set dementia who never were involved in contact sports vs those who were.

Since the 20's???

Here's another perspective from Radiologist that gives a skeptical analysis (God forbid) of a popular CTE "study" that parroted by USA Today,CNN,ESPN,etc here ya go
There's a "shite ton" we actually don't know about CTE and I'd rather scientists with long term studies sort this out
as opposed to ESPN and trial attorneys.
