Now with NIL, it's Money first, Coach, then school.

For some, absolutely, for others, not at all

And since Money is involved, I don't even know if the school matters as much anymore.

The school never mattered for most of these guys. It’s who was coaching, how can I get to the league

Just reinstate the old transfer rules. With one minor change.

First transfer, sit a year without losing eligibility.

Second transfer, loss of a year of eligibility, but able to play immediately.

Zero transfer waivers.

Grad transfer, immediately eligible.

The NCAA cant. They lose in court...BAD every single time they are challenged.

This argument about coaches leave, is tired and pointless. When a coach leaves before his contract is up the school is compensated.

More than 700 players hit the portal on opening day

Last year 291 players entered on Day 1

Sounds like they are trying to cash in before revenue sharing kicks in on July 1st. It's also probably the reasoning as to why many coaches opted out of spring games. Collectives across the country have been looking to empty a good portion of their war chests prior to July 1st.

Are you under the impression that all these in the transfer portal have spots at their existing schools?

One of the more uninformed debates on the internet. I say it in every one of these threads. If you just liked the games better before the portal and NIL, that’s fine, it’s your opinion. But the bullshite they’ll spew to try to back themselves up is asinine

There’s going to be a lot fewer good players stuck on crap teams that won’t get a chance to play in the tournament…

And there's going to be a lot more crap teams in the tournament because the talent will end up more consolidated to the big name programs. Small schools won't be able to keep their diamonds in the rough that the major schools initially overlooked as high school recruits.

The P4 conferences are the only 4 conferences with teams that made it to the sweet 16 this year. Its never been less than 7 conferences represented in the sweet 16 since the tournament expanded to 32 teams in 1975

Basketball is a much different game as far as roster construction, but we saw the exact opposite of this in football after all the bitching and moaning this would happen there too

Did we really though?

Boise was the only non-P4 team to finish in the top 20.

If you look at last year in the context of the BCS or 4 team playoff era, it would have looked overall like a pretty normal season. Look at the top of the polls after the final week of the regular season. The top 7 were all teams that have traditionally been elite level programs and frequent contenders. It only seems like last season was weird because we were talking about Arizona State, SMU, Boise, Indiana, and BYU as playoff contenders....which was more to do with conference realignment and the expanded playoff field.

I don't think we really had more upsets than normal last year. It just seemed like there was more parity because so many teams still had playoff hopes alive late in the season thanks to the 12 team playoff format.

Guys that don’t play want to find somewhere to play. Shocking development.

1) or they want more NIL money

2) or they aren’t good enough to play

3) or they can’t deal with sitting fir a year or two

n other news, I didn’t see many threads about all those coaches not fulfilling their contracts and leaving their players for a raise. Hmmmmm

You mean the ones that sign a multi year contract with buyout provisions?

Give the players multi year contracts with buyouts. I’m good with that.

Why carve grad transfers out? Motivation to complete graduation?

Plenty of degrees are such a low bar that I’m not sure I see a reason to give a free transfer
