The PAC 12 lost head coaches to Michigan State and Mississippi State. That's not good.

And early retirement for Chris Petersen. Not a good offseason for the Pac 12.

Poor CU I remember when it was such a big deal that Kiffin left UT after 1 year. It's just a common thing now.

If teams cared so much about a coach leaving after 1 year, they wouldn’t go after 1 year coaches

This is a bigger dick move than Kiffin. He left one week after NSD. Those kids are stuck there but he can do whatever the frick he wants.

The competitive disadvantage the PAC is at makes them closer to C-USA than the B1G.

Good hire for MSU. He has NFL experience as well which will help in recruiting. I guess they doubled his salary and doubled the assistant coach hiring pool and will upgrade their strength and conditioning.

It's true that the Pac-12 doesn't the revenue for a football arms race with the Big Ten/SEC/etc.

It's also true that Colorado lost a coach who found himself with great leverage and used that to secure a giant bag of cash from Michigan State.

These may not be related though

Michigan State, trying to scramble in Feb. and getting turned down a bunch, throwing a big offer at Mel Tucker and Colorado saying "no we're not going to double your salary and assistant pool after a 5-7 season to match it" is pretty simple and logical!

Colorado also gets back $3 million from the buyout. So the choice was either add $6 million a year in salaries (head coaches and assistants) or lose the coach, get $3 million back, and go a different direction.

As a State fan I am pretty pumped about this after the Fickell debacle. People don’t realize how hard it is to bring in someone a couple weeks before spring ball starts, especially after the last 3 years of crap we’ve had. Now we get a badass young recruiter who’s the highest paid black coach in the country to bring some excitement in.

I’m also really happy about the staff money. My biggest problem with Dantonio was his staff the last few years was always filled with his buddies who didn’t even like to recruit. I mean Bollman, Staten, and Warner??? These are not guys who belong on a top-25 program’s staff right now. Can’t imagine Bollman walking into some 18 year old’s living room trying to make his pitch with crumbs in his beard.

Now with all this said, I know MSU is not a top-10 job but we’ve only had 1 solid coach, Saban, get poached by another program since I’ve been following- but it really sucked. I can’t help but think bringing Tucker in like this is like dating the girl who cheated on her husband with you. I really hope he doesn’t get snatched by LSU or whoever in a few years.

They already had a defensive mind. They needed an offensive mind.

But MSU has a low bar. If he can win 7 a year he'll retire there.

MSU fans are used to having a stout defense and wavering offense though. I think they can handle that at this point more than going back to the John L Smith days of losing heartbreaking shootouts because of your pansy defense.

He also accepted the MSU job a few hours after speaking at a CU booster function, and caving to a few recruits and unretiring numbers so the signees could wear them

Washington State might be one of the least desirable jobs in P5. They have no money, no facilities and aren't near any recruiting grounds. Every SEC job is a recruiting upgrade.

Tucker...I can see why Colorado wouldn't match that MSU offer. I think he has potential as a coach, but MSU threw a huge offer at him. He was staying until MSU made a Godfather offer.

Mel Tucker doubled his salary and Michigan State has more upside right now than Colorado. Better conference, more recent success. It was a good move.
