Brian Baldinger basically ejaculated when talking about Chris Cole this morning on the radio. That's how highly he thinks of him

Must be a deep CB year if Zabien Brown isn't in the top 5.

Mensah was fine at Tulane and Duke, but nowhere near top 10 pick worthy, let alone #1 QB taken. Between Cam Ward and Carson Beck you would think people would stop falling for the fool's gold that is the Miami QB.

I mean, it would be very caveman brained to disregard a QB based on a school they went to, and it’s not like Miami runs some Mike leach type of simple offense that has a history of not translating. Especially when all three of those guys listed had extensive tape and history at other schools prior to transferring to Miami.

He’s definitely got some juice as a passer and his size and rushing is a little Josh Allen-ish. Seems like the lock to be the top pick this cycle, was already getting a lot of buzz at north Texas

Think Austin Simmons could shoot up some boards too.

That's the point, just like Ward's tape didn't scream #1 pick, what in the pre-Miami tape screams best QB in this draft for Mensah? Beck was pretty appropriately drafted in the 3rd.

Dawson clearly runs a system that allows good but not great QB's to succeed. He had Tyle Van Dyke throw for nearly 3000 yards on 66% passing in 10 games his first year there as OC.

You’re joking, right? The QB position in the NFL is evolving quickly away from the traditional pocket passer, imo.

Sure, absolutely right, but that doesn't change anything about what I said.

Mensah was fine at Tulane and Duke, but nowhere near top 10 pick worthy, let alone #1 QB taken. Between Cam Ward and Carson Beck you would think people would stop falling for the fool's gold that is the Miami QB. He looked fine against Clemson, but it really was a coming back down to Earth game. If he is passing for 84% after the ND, UNC, and Duke stretch of their schedule I am happy to reconsider.

Chambliss is a gimmick. If ND didn't have Carr would I take him? Yes. Would I be pissed if the Saints drafted him (assuming we didn't have Shough)? Also yes.

I concede I haven't watched enough Mestemaker to form an opinion, but he hasn't exactly lit the world on fire against mid competition at OSU this season.

Calling Carr a "pocket passer" is very disingenuous. He can get out of the pocket and move as needed, but thankfully doesn't need to do that often. He's more in the Joe Burrow mold than he is in the Peyton Manning mold as far as ability to move. He has every tool you could ask for in a college QB.

Maybe it's my bias, but seems silly to me he isn't the consensus #1 QB in this class.

I think CJ is the most NFL-ready (by a good bit) and has the highest floor of this current crop, but I don't know if that should translate to a draft position.

I've thought pretty highly of Mestemaker for a while, and teams wouldn't be dumb to take a gamble on him in the first few picks. It's not hard to look at him and see Josh Allen. Only thing I'd be concerned about with him is his ability to process at an NFL level.

Chambliss is an awesome college quarterback, but I do wonder about his physical gifts at the next level, specifically, his height and how he extends plays (that would get swallowed by NFL linebackers and DE's).

Mensah is TBD. He will likely have plenty of opportunities to prove it against genuinely elite defenses over the next few months. His aDOT isn't great, but it hasn't needed to be with who they've played and to whom he is throwing.

For what it's worth, anyone doubting Carr's athleticism hasn't watched him enough. There are maybe 10 college QBs who have the athleticism to make that play he did against MSU when he got out of that going-to-the-ground tackle, sprinted left, and made the throw to Graham across his body. He is pretty damn quick and quite strong (only been sacked, what, once or twice this season? That's as much on his pocket presence and quickness as it is our OL). His arm strength is quite good - not Ryan Leaf or Jamarcus Russell, but he can make every NFL throw. His accuracy is incredible, clean and quick release, great timing, awesome at layering throws, etc.

His NFL comps are tough. People compare him to Purdy as far as being a complete operator, but I think he's got a bit more zip than Purdy (and is definitely more polished than Purdy was coming out). You'll hear Cousins sometimes - not sure about that one. I know he models his game after Stafford, but he doesn't quite have Stafford's raw arm strength.

So should everyone be wary of smith because of Harrison Jr?

Elaborate?

No one wins every single game, but he’s been nails in some huge spots.

Why? Because they both attended Ohio State?

He can create with his feet at an elite level by extending plays, but that is a rare trait to carry over to the NFL especially for someone as small as he is. His arm strength isn't great. I just don't see his game translating to the NFL. He's an above average college QB but don't think he will be good in the NFL.

I think he was joking based on the number of successful OSU receivers in the league not named Marvin Harrison.

Isn't that the rub? They play a baby soft schedule that didn't translate for Ward. They made it further last year, so Beck had the chance to play more good teams. But he looked pedestrian outside of Malachi Toney, and it translated to a 3rd round pick on a guy who came into the season a 1st rounder. It's starting to become its own history.

Mensah will have the test against Notre Dame, and is very good imo, but we won't really know for sure unless Miami goes deep into the playoffs again

No Devan Thompkins?

His film this season is filthy.
