Sorry...it's the Victim Advocate in me. If THAT makes me a horrible person. I can live with that.

I think on the MSB people want to ignore/forget the bad side of his life, especially so close to his death. It will always be part of his story.

And a league wide retirement of a number is dumb, regardless of whose number it is. If the lakers want to do it, fine. Anyone else is just dumb.

Agreed, are we going to retire MJ's number? Magic? Bill Russell? LeBron? Shaq?

Agreed.

Will the league retire 23 when Jordan passes?

Well, that's just not really necessary.

c'mon dude. we can argue every damn thing about sports is emotional and irrational

fandom, possibly, but not sports

for example: the winning score wins the game and the other team loses. that's purely objective

Kobe was one of the best ever but any talk of the NBA retiring the number league wide is just an overreaction to a horrible tragedy.

right now? sure. i'm a fat POS at the moment

at the old TD pickup game, we played with female LSU players a time or 2 and i was better than them (and i'm not some talent). this was back when LSU was a final 4 team, also (and no it wasn't sylvia or simone, obviously)

remember that "Jake" dude made a post once about he is terrible at basketball. I read it a few weeks ago.

that is not true.

there are numerous posters who can vouch that i'm not "terrible" when in shape and playing regularly. now i was nowhere near the best guy on the court but that wasn't my game. i was the pickup proto draymond green

Exactly.

That is just overkill.

Like people are saying, will we expect that with every single legendary player now?

yeah it's a knee jerk overreaction

like somebody said earlier, it would be like Joe Burrow dying tomorrow and Auburn IMMEDIATELY retiring his number

Well the Heat retired Dan Marino's number so this is very reasonable by comparison

Yes, by comparison, this is reasonable, but that was stupid too.

You determined that because I think it is extreme for an entire league to retire a number?
