Payton's contract isn't up for three more years. NFL isn't like college where coaches can jump job to job however they like.

I'd think John Fox and Cowher would be the front runners, although word on the street is that Cowher is waiting for the Carolina job to open up.

I'd say he'd love to have him and will throw a fricking boatload of money at him. Keep your eye on Mrs. Payton. Word to the wise.

Jerry can turn on a dime if it serves his best interests.

I don't know, I could see Cowher in Dallas. I went to a conference he spoke at one time(a motivational thing) and he spoke highly of Jerrah a few times in that conference as far as people he admired in business. I think if the situation was good and the personnel was there, you can't totally rule it out.

I would want a QB before a coach.

pretty sure NFL HCs under contract can no longer job hop, so he couldn't get SP even if he wanted him

Yeah, the NFL put a stop to that after the Gruden/Raiders/Buc deal. I'm sure Jerry Jones would offer Payton a dumptruck load of money, but the earliest he could be in Dallas is 2013.

I'm actually in agreement with this. Since Johnson left, Jones' record of hires is pretty much a comprehensive list of sycophants, yes-men, and personalities much less than his own. The only exception is Parcells, whom Jerry very publicly insulted in a drunken tirade.

...should be an interesting offseason in Dallas.

Why does everyone assume Jerry's money could get him just about anybody he wants?

The job was open 3 years ago and he hired...Wade Phillips. There are lots of capable people who won't put up with his s***.

And saban had an ideal ownership situation in Miami, dude gave saban anything he wanted. I just don't see Saban having any interest in a return to the NFL. I think he realizes he can walk away as one of the all time CFB greats with a few more rings.

I don't think it's even that noble. I think Saban realizes he can make a ton of money and be very successful while working a whole lot less than an NFL coach.

Saban and Spurrier are pretty much the living examples of the fact that you can be ten foot tall and bullet proof in college and still be seven ounces of shite in the NFL.

I will never forget Spurrier accepting the Redskins job and firing off a one-liner about Jim Haslett at his press conference. You could tell he thought the NFC was just about the same as the SEC.

Fast forward a few months later and Jim Haslett goes into Washington and kicks Spurrier's arse up and down the field. At the midfield handshake after the game Spurrier looked like a whipped dog. I knew he was done at that point.

Saban had a winning record his first year. He only struggled during his second year because the Dolphins QBs were absolutely godawful. Vince Lombardi himself wouldn't have won much with Cleo Lemon, Joey Harrington and Daunte Culpepper coming off a serious knee injury. If he was hired by a team with a solid GM in place and NOT given any say over personnel decisions, he would have done just fine in the NFL.
