Per Schefter
Jets QB Mark Sanchez's new contract is a 3-year extension for $40.5 million, giving him five total years for $58.25 million, with $20.5 million fully guaranteed.

that may be dumber than the skins trade

Wow what an awful deal for the Jets

I'm fine with it.
Lowers the cap room a lot for free agency and by the time the money kicks in, so will the money from the TV deal. Inconsistencies aside, he still set the franchise record for TDs in a season.
Gives the Jets the space to build around him, give him a RT and potentially a WR. Also allows them to pursue a better Safety than before...

6th highest paid QB in the league?
Tonight must be a full moon with this and RGIII.
QB league indeed.

how is this really noteworthy?
i mean, if i ran a 5.2 in the 40, and that was a personal best for me - is it of note? is it worth a cookie?
great its a personal best but it is still slow as shite.

if sanchez is getting 12 per you gotta figure Brees thinks he can get 30.

At what point do you begin to realize it doesn't matter what you put around him?

What will be the reason for his regression this year?

I don't even want to think about our QB situation.

It was top 7-8 in the league by QBs, with several elite QBs in front of him

so you think he is #9 then?
one accomplishment isnt much when it is accompanied with many failures.
fyi i think that was oweo who just wheeled by me while i was improving my 40 time

LOL. Reminds me of the Bears wasting all those years with Grossman behind center.

No, but his his production is only half of the deal anyway. It was made for the cap room, the Jets can go out and compete for an elite free agent now or several quality ones. His salary jumps when the TV money kicks it, so it will be less of a big deal.
It's a bit of a risk with the guaranteed money, but it allows the Jets to get better elsewhere. Sanchez wasn't even in the top 3 for the team problems last year. If he sucked it up and you cut him the next year without this extension, you're adding QB to the list of positions you didn't get to fill because of the limited cap space. Not even getting into the repercussions financially cutting him...

Pretty much hit it on the head
I was sort of hoping they would land an impact FA, but more likely this just allows us to lock up our own guys
